NPPD: Nuke Plant Could Be Shut Down “In Three Seconds”, Critics Still Worry, Missouri News Horizon, June 21, 2011:
[... T]he Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) insists the 37-year-old Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, which sits on the raging Missouri River, is as secure as they come.
On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the safest, Alan Dostal who is NPPD’s nuclear expert says, ”We are an absolutely safe plant, that’s a 10.”
Dostal’s comments came during an interview with Nebraska Watchdog on March 29, five days before three workers at Cooper were exposed to radiation. According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) a fuel rod accident triggered alarms that are worn by the workers. NPPD says the incident which is still under investigation did not cause any apparent injuries but was “unacceptable.” The NRC wants “to understand why normal work practices were not followed.” [...]
[T]he federal government’s own Sandia National Laboratories has concluded that similarities between the Dai-Ichi plant and reactors like Cooper pose a significant problem: specifically that a lengthy loss of electrical power could cause a nuclear meltdown. [...]

Is TEPCO Dumping Spent Fuel Rods Into The Sea?

I wouldn’t doubt it. Thanks for this link… No doubt they are also deliberately letting contaminated water from the plant go into the sea given they have been almost out of containment space for the last 2 weeks (amazing how that containment space never filled up…)

Note that radioactive.eu.com is linking you to that site/its own site. Totally speculative and one should be wary on the web.
Report Comment
Too True. One has learnt to be wary from the constant evasiveness of the company controlling this plant.
On the balance of their past evidence of direct untruth it would be a small step to inferring illegal practicees of the type listed on the linked site.
OK: if they can lie to everybody about 3 meltdowns then why should we not assume they are chucking hot rubbish into the sea?

For decades in the last 50 years, the u.s. coastguard, with cooperation from their federal overseers, conducted the clandestine practice of dumping used batteries into the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, nearby to navigation buoys, while American civilians were being fined $500 or $1000 for discarding gum wrappers on the interstate highways.
Any doubt about what government does for you?

To clarify: The Cooper plant is near Brownville- sometimes mistakenly called Brownsville. It is near the S.E. corner of Nebraska.

Omaha and Nebraska City up 1 foot each in the last day makes that 23 inch leeway before COOPER shutdown look kind of small:

I am monitoring all the Missouri River gauges from Rulo in the south to Fort Peck in Montana, and the water levels are generally steady except for isolated 3 foot plus rises at individual gauges, based presumably on local rains and run-off.
If one of the 6 major dams were to ever break, this reading of a 21 (twenty-one!) foot rise in 36 hours, is what one or more of the downstream gauges would show:
http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=abr&gage=ftps2&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1”
I am sure that FORT CALHOUN and COOPER-Brownville nuclear operators have hotlines open to NWS and upstream Corps managers, and this flood graph is what they realize could happen, their worst nightmare come true, washing out their reactor, and just what they don’t want to see.
So, I’ll watch for them.

Nebraska Nuclear Threat: As Predictable as Fukushima *MAPS*
WOWT says that a levy near the Cooper reactor is about to wash away: *VIDEO*
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
Nuclear accidents – like oil spills and financial meltdowns – happen because big companies push to make more money by cutting every safety measure in the books.
The accident at Fukushima was predictable….
Likewise, the potential problem at the Fort Calhoun reactor in Nebraska was predictable. (For background, see this and this.)
As Ketv reported in March:
Fort Calhoun’s nuclear power plant is one of three reactors across the country that federal regulators said they are most concerned about….

Tornadoes, Floods, Earthquakes …we can only watch them as past events. They are unpredictable. With only watching these events, we will not get any further. What has to be done is to cease the fire straight at the beginning: Exit from Nuclear Industry asap.

Came across these you tube Vids. Appears as though some individuals are trying to deny the media blackout by putting themselves on the line so you can see the truth.
What worries me about these videos is the absence of security around there. I know here in Canada they have armed security around our nuclear facilities. Food for thought.
Enjoy
