Fukushima Daiichi is a huge mess still going on …effecting air, land, and sea. And all anyone can do is watch it spread. Researchers can document it, and sadly, it's all anyone can do.

Nuclear was the biggest mistake, made by the most naive men on the planet. We're paying for it now.

There were people of genius that knew this day would come. There were good people. There were wise people. There were healthy people who knew the nature of this great energy source. Though, all it would take is one evil company. One madman at the helm. The technology becomes secret. The dangers become secret. The nature of the toxic substances gets short shrifted when considering npp construction, placement, and waste storage. This ultimately causes a kind of desensitization to the use of nuclear. It will be the thing that causes our extinction. There is no escaping it. Millions upon millions have unofficially died horrible deaths as a result of Chernobyl's core going critical. Fukushima was, at minimum, a hundred times more severe in terms of quantity of releases. We really don't know about the sfp's, so we must assume the worst. Everyone help someone in need, and do something for a charity. Love thy neighbors. At least we can go out with dignity.

I have been reading "Wild Swans" about 3 generations of Chinese women and the choices and perceptions they had about their lives in China.

What I could clearly see from this book is that when you choose between the lessor of two evils, you are still choosing evil. The choice should be for good as opposed to evil.

        • Time Is Short Time Is Short

Speaking of Chinese women, anne, here's the type of politician in Japan today that has no concept of moral responsibility:

'A leading Japanese politician has called the use of sex slaves by Japanese soldiers during world war two a "necessary system".

Toru Hashimoto, the Osaka mayor, made the reference to about 200,000 women, mostly Korean and Chinese, who were believed to have been coerced into becoming so-called comfort women.'

And we wonder why they do nothing but lie about Fukushima?

          • There was an interview with one of these former sex slaves recently, and she said that they will probably all die before Japan even apologizes for what they did, much less compensate them for it.

      • We Not They Finally

hbjon, you certainly mean well and you're on the right side, but any "one lone madman" (or company) theory here is perilously naïve. This sprang from the machineries of whole governments captured by the Cold War and forever-war mentalities, along with the perennial profiteers. They have never thought that dangers to humans was a PRIORITY. In fact, giving any priority to dangers has always been seen as an OBSTACLE. Like did you ever even HEAR about the nuclear catastrophe at the Santa Susana Labs in Southern Cal in 1959, which was 240 times worse than Three Mill Island? OF COURSE NOT. Because dangers to humans do not matter INSTITUTIONALLY. Just don't think that ANYONE in this long chain of events was a matter of "the road to hell is paved wit good intentions." Sometimes the road to hell is just the road to hell!!

        • HoTaters HoTaters

Sometimes the road to hell is just the road to hell. (Famous last words.) And not paved with good intentions.

We not they finally. The most important idea in the FBI is that if you are not paranoid, your not an effective FBI agent. Even on the most pleasant afternoons with a nice cool breeze blowing down the hillsides, there is a group of people who want you dead. They work tirelessly at it 24/7. We must be dilligent in having the ability to recognize a threat and interpreting the situation correctly. The sleeping guard on duty is completely unacceptable. Naivety? Reserved for those that don't carry the burden that I have. Paranoia. If you were King, make a rule that says information regarding a treacherous evil is unholy, unchristian, anti-national security, top secret, classified, or morally wrong. Then the treacherous evil will eventually be the suppressor to civilization. People used to feel very uncomfortable with the word "evil". Boy oh boy, not any more. And I myself is on the right side, if that is the side that believes in everything that is good and wholesome in the world.

  • Sol Man

The greedy, naive men were steeped in pride. We see that pride does go before destruction. So many tons cooking for……ever.

    • We Not They Finally

Greed is rarely clothed in naivete. It is clothed in cynicism. No one CARED that humans would be hurt. The whole industry has had it roots in war profiteering. And whole governments wee giving taxpayer-paid insurance wholesale to insanely dangerous technology and they KNEW it. (Or why would no private insurance company ever insure this madness? Like duh….) There is no "out" for these people, like "naïve" or "pride." I know that you may think that humanity is inherently good and we are just "learning lessons." Like Anne Frank wrote before being dragged off to the concentration camp, "I still believe that people are good at heart." Well, SOME people are good at heart. Maybe A LOT of people are good at heart. You probably good at heart yourself — you seem to be on exactly the right side. But the people who spearhead this industry are doing as evil deeds as we have ever seen. This is being done to ALL OF HUMANITY, and FOR OUR ENTIRE FUTURE. It's unspeakably evil. All we can really do is to still not let it de-humanize US.

      • PavewayIII PavewayIII

Wait… what? If the greedy didn't care that [other] humans would be hurt, then that's psychopathy, *not* cynicism. I would describe it as the other way around, though: psychopaths and the organizations and people they infect are always control-seeking. Greed (wealth) is only one facet of that.

"Cynicism is an attitude or state of mind characterized by a general distrust of others' apparent motives or ambitions, or a general lack of faith or hope in the human race or in individuals with desires, hopes, opinions, or personal tastes that a cynic perceives as unrealistic or inappropriate, therefore deserving of ridicule or admonishment. It is a form of jaded negativity, and other times, realistic criticism or skepticism."

They said that they are going to be taking samples from 12 locations that have been per determined, so as to give them the potential of cleaning site before samples are taken, the same they do on land around detectors, it makes me sceptical, let's hope there is no interference from tepco, what's the chances.

    • We Not They Finally

Well, that's one thing you may not have to worry about. They don't seem much able to clean up ANYTHING. It's pervasive.

  • combomelt combomelt

HA! 2 years later an "outside team" has finally been allowed to sample that close to shore? 2 Years!? If they can taint or control these test samples, locations and results, TEPCO will do so. The results will be soo clean, we all will smile with relief.</sarc>

    • We Not They Finally

Well, let's hope that Ken Buessler (the above article) can actually HANDLE this. He's gone back and forth — like it might hurt the sea a bit, but not us humans. Or it gets "diluted" in as big a place as the Pacific Ocean. The whole culture needs a crash course in bio-accumulation and bio-magnification, as well as half-lives of radionuclides and atmospheric distribution to virtually EVERYWHERE in time.

  • combomelt combomelt

whatever happened with all the intense concern and "reporting" on ca sea lion mortality? So many outspoken feverish attempts to uncover the truth. I call bs on everyone. Not one db of sound on what could possibly be the cause. Not from anyone anywhere, no independent testing or analysis. FAIL FAIL FAIL DAMMIT

probably you saw the article from Yoichi Shimatsu. Sorry dont have the link to the paper, but you can find it, if you didnt see it. Here something on it

It highlights your thinking; Out of millions of people, and thousands in the professional capacity, only one guy does some testing on his own and publishes. Did other whistleblowers publish but get scrubbed? Is it possible that not one in a million would go for the truth?

One conclusion is inescapable; nuclear toxins are having SOME EFFECT. Any truthful scientist should now ADD IT to the list of causes for every pathology. We complain about the elite powers, but hey, these are "common" scientists and the like. From Alaska to Mexico and all states between, not a word. Its either curious or despicable, or sinister. Call it sick

    Apples and Oranges…

Chernobyl has directly affected over 5 million people.

Fukushima is directly affecting over 10 million people.

Chernobyl was one reactor explosion/meltout, mitigated heavily by covering with sand. It spewed heavily, all across Europe and the Planet. Chernobyl is landlocked.

Fukushima is three reactor explosions/meltdowns/meltouts, by the sea, mitigated laughably by erecting a tent, and still ongoing, with untold millions of tons of water running through each, now laced with caesium and all the other 2000+ manmade radionuclides, with the majority of it continuing to be dumped into the ocean.
Fukushima fallout continues to circle the Earth, by Atmosphere and Ocean.

That doesn't even address the spent fuel pools.

    Apples and Oranges.

Both disasters have directly affected all of us.

The MSM has even gave it out, the truth, completely, although in cotton candy bite sized bits. Not many have listened. It seems this piece on 60 minutes last year, spills it out, if you listen to what they are saying, not how they say it…

60 Minutes Report Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Japan

It's right there in front of everyone, the truth.
It's not "OK", it's not "alright".
Humans have fuuukud up, with this Fukushima disaster.
We don't even know how much we f#cked up!

    • We Not They Finally

Well said. And the whole modern process of news cycles is deceptive at best. Our attention gets yanked here, it gets yanked there. A story only has "legs" for a certain time (or so we are told.) We need a whole network covering this EVERY DAY and monitoring the ONGOING PROCESS. Destruction of the human race (well, plants, too, animals, the ocean, etc.) isn't "a news story." It's a whole new ongoing paradigm for our lives.

    • Time Is Short Time Is Short

"Fukushima is directly affecting over 10 million people."

The population of greater Tokyo alone is over 35 million people, and is thoroughly radiated enough to be considered hazardous waste anywhere else in the world. Where are you drawing the boundary, Jebus?

Here's a short article about the depopulating of Japan as we speak:

'Japan’s Vacant And Abandoned Houses: Visions of Detroit'

And what it looks like in pictures:

Japan as a viable country is finished. It's only downhill from here.

Below, is a report concerning the petition to the UN on behalf of the Children of Fukushima and their petition to the UN. The UN sent Mr. Anand Grover on a Country Visit to Japan on 15 to 26 November 2012. Mr Anand Grover made some comments regarding the nuclear disaster, as well as some other issues in Japan.
The document to this response has been oddly placed on the Arabic section of the UN website, though it was listed in the media section that deals with press releases. It is not available in the Japanese language.

No mention of this meeting nor any of the statements have been covered or commented on by the main stream media.

    Excellent post Arc.

In the interest of stomping out any censorship of public knowledge anywhere and a reminder of just part, of what happened within that five kilometer radius around Fukushima in March of 2011.

This is the most graphic evidence of the lies of nuclear power.

There's more truth in that one video, than over two plus years of words from Tepco and the Japanese Government…

With Egypt and Dubai using nuclear energy and parts of Africa, I don't see how the world will survive. The spread of nuclear energy is itself barbaric, and the countries which have and which are newly developing nuclear energy are barbaric, and those running the plants are and will be barbarians. And all the increased uranium mining itself will further contaminate the earth forever.

Does anyone really believe that the mutated babies will be allowed to live, if they are not stillborn? Hey, another way to make potato chips more tasty. Such a sick idea, and yet it is already happening.

Egypt walks out of nuclear talks in Geneva
      April 30 2013

No more barbaric than the US..

      • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar anne

Egypt also walked out because it now has a contract with South Korea to install nuclear power plants in Egypt. This whole article is a bunch of double talk. Depleted uranium (and the use of pure uranium by the US and others) is the use of nuclear weapons. The nuclear power plants are themselves nuclear weapons. Fostering nuclear power plants just puts dirty bombs in the middle of a country. Then the country can be blackmailed because a terrorist plot or bunker busting bombs can cause a meltdown. The countries who first had nuclear power plants sowed the seeds and means of their own destruction. EMP bombs can also cause meltdowns. And because nuclear power plants are so expensive, the only reason to have them is to produce plutonium.
And it is very foolish to assume that no one will ever use nuclear weapons. The governments are run by psychopaths, and sometime someone will be unable to restrain using another nuclear bomb. They prove this over and over again every time depleted uranium is used in bombs and armaments. Countries who used depleted uranium are killing their own soldiers and their soldiers' families and cuildren. We look at human sacrifice of other humans in earlier centuries and think how barbaric and uncivilized. And yet the countries with uranium weapons and nuclear power plants are sacrificing humans as badly as all the atrocities of the 20th century and even more. And not one country has totally shut down all its nuclear reactors.

“Most people are both repelled and intrigued by the images of cold-blooded, conscienceless murderers that increasingly populate our movies, television programs, and newspaper headlines. With their flagrant criminal violation of society's rules, serial killers like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy are among the most dramatic examples of the psychopath. Individuals with this personality disorder are fully aware of the consequences of their actions and know the difference between right and wrong, yet they are terrifyingly self-centered, remorseless, and unable to care about the feelings of others. Perhaps most frightening, they often seem completely normal to unsuspecting targets–and they do not always ply their trade by killing. Presenting a compelling portrait of these dangerous men and women based on 25 years of distinguished scientific research, Dr. Robert D. Hare vividly describes a world of con artists, hustlers, rapists, and other predators who charm, lie, and manipulate their way through life. Are psychopaths mad, or simply bad? How can they be recognized? And how can we protect ourselves? This book provides solid information and surprising insights for anyone seeking to understand this devastating condition.”

It's a kind of cover-up not to show what the Govnt. Is doing abroad to hide the ongoing reality in Japan. I read article in UN Arabic section but Fukushima's conditions are mentioned only briefly with lies. So, I decided to translate the blog you sent me and translate some parts of UN doc. I also tweeted that Japanese Govnt 's activities in UN are only updated in Arabic section.
Japanese mass media are contaminated by money from Nuke lobby and that's a reason no mass media followed this important human rights issue. I tried to ask my friends in Geneva if there are journalists who can have access to UN s coming session about human rights and resolution for Japan. I believe we need alternative journalists who show the world what really happens in Fukushima….
