Title: Japan warned of mass rescue in nuclear crisis
Source: AP
Date: Jan 25, 2012
The Japanese government’s worst-case scenario at the height of the nuclear crisis last year warned that tens of millions of people, including Tokyo residents, would need to leave their homes, according to a report obtained by the Associated Press. But fearing widespread panic, officials kept the report secret. [...]
The report further warned contaminated areas might not be safe for ”several decades”.
”We cannot rule out further developments that may lead to an unpredictable situation at Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant, where there has been an accident, and this report outlines a summary of that unpredictable situation,” says the document, written by Shunsuke Kondo, head of the commission, which oversees nuclear policy. [...]
The new Japanese government continues to refuse to make the document public.
The Associated Press obtained it on Wednesday through a government source, who insisted on anonymity because the document was still categorised as internal. [...]

There is nothing quite destructive like bureaucracy. You name it and it has been destroyed by bureaucracy. Environment…Civil Liberties…Culture… Nothing left untouched. Freedom comes with risks. Is the world brave enough to fight for such a thing? We will have nuclear power plants until people fight for true freedom. Then we will have the power to close these down. Not before and not during but until we fight for our true liberty back will we have the power to shut these death machines.

Whoa. A leak. To AP, but not J-media.(?)Well, one takes opportunities as they arise. Maybe this was safer for the leaker.
I hope AP releases the full report, professionally translated.
Thanks Sydney Morning Herald. I hope more media outlets run this story.

THANK GOD for the leak. Anonymous or not, I’m so very proud of them.

Glad you got it Whoopie. And there’s a – whole – lot more com’n!!!

It was in the NY Times and USA Today as well.
So I’m thinking the first talk of this report was actually in the Japan media… at the beginning of Jan, around the 5th:
Japan Times: Alarming gov’t report discussed ‘Tokyo Exodus’ and collapse of Spent Fuel Pool 4 as rods melted through concrete walls
Kyodo: Secret worst scenario was ‘reactor explosion’ at No. 1 and Spent Fuel Pool 4 drying up -Hosono
Asahi: Fukushima Worst-Case: Beyond 250km could be evacuation zone if fuel in SFP No. 4 melts — Covering pool, reactors with sand mixture was considered as last resort

‘Problem is, the dis-information continues. They are still calling it, “the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl,” (true as an occurrrence in time, but not accurate in terms of severity). And the statement, “eventually got the reactors under control” (paraphrased) is a blatant falsehood. Still parroting the words of whomever doesn’t want the severity of the situation to be known.

It is no secret that we are in uncharted territory.
No secret that everyone is scared.
If you aren’t scared then keep your head buried and continue watching American Gladiators.
What they really want hidden is the fact that they are maintaining and optimizing their world-wide Death Machine.
Look how Chernobyl was felt with.
The Japanese need to stop being polite, lose their fear, eject the panties from their crack, and plead for a world-wide coalition of scientific experts, military experts, cutting-edge tool and material experts, and other able-bodied people to attack this monster and all who are attempting to cover this up.
We need a solution and we need it yesterday. The problem has been stated repeatedly.
Let’s begin the solution.

> It is no secret that we are in uncharted territory.
That’s just it. It is a secret. Outside of Japan and even in Japan most people are completely oblivious to the absolute horror of what is happening in Fukushima.
Since leaving Japan I have spoken to many people about what is happening and they look at me like I am crazy. Even those who have heard of what has happened say “oh the news says it is over so it is over. they would tell us if it was a serious issue”.
What is wrong with people to be so simple minded like this. I cannot comprehend it.
Report Comment
What’s wrong with people is they are too trusting.
They think that the “news” and TV are made for them. Media is not made for the people, it’s made for the advertisers to influence people.
People simply cannot comprehend that something this crucial, this big, would be kept from them. I couldn’t comprehend it. if I hadn’t paid attention to this at one point, you would have had a hard time convincing me any of this was true. Heck I will admit to arguing for nuclear power for years… I believed that it was safe and I believed that the design would contain any problems. I was completely wrong, of course, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t believe it.

You are correct in talking with people about this atrocity. Keep it up. Educate everyone you can about this and it won’t be a secret (as you claim) much longer. Refine your presentation. Ignore the naysayers. Trust yourself.
Good Luck.
Peace.

Brainwashed.
OK dress it up there’s entire bookshelves full of material on the educational system, our busy lives, dumbing down, media influence, opinion shaping, techniques of political governance etc etc etc – brainwashed. Thoroughly propagandised.
It’s hard to admit
“They did it to me and it worked.”
It’s hard to even get to that point.
How many here raised in purported democracies were raised to actually think
you’d have to defend yourself against the interests of the factions of a central State, or an oligarchy or plutocracy or
kleptocracy or blind momentum bureaucracy or call it whatever you want?
How many were raised to understand the monetary system, other than get an education, good job, save, invest, buy a
house, retire comfortable?
How many were raised to understand the techniques of consumer persuasion?
How many have lived where there was ongoing public dialogue about really large issues well-covered in the media free of spin?
How many old folks here have noticed things aren’t what they were or have realised certain things never were what you thought?
The positive thing is that one no longer has to slog thru the packaged deal and all the distractions, obligations, committments and responsibilities of a busy life to get multiple perspectives
on almost any issue and from informed and uninformed sources alike, such as total strangers halfway ’round the world.
The Internet is there for young and old, high school dropout and Prof. emeritus alike. It is a threat to established control, unless it can be co-opted and controlled or simply shut down.
We must defend all that empowers us and is of enduring value in terms of true human need. Decide for yourself what needs to be
done on the other side of that equation.
Or it will be decided for you.

With leaks like this starting to happen, it means the tide is starting to turn. It could be a false sense on my part, because I’ve felt it had to for a long time.
That’s why we fought last week for a free internet – it’s all we have left.
If sites like Enenews, and Ex-SKF and others didn’t exist – we would be completely in the dark regarding Fuku.
Almost every other message board was overwhelmed by the shills early on in the crisis. The shills have been active here, and at times try to overwhelm Enenews, but to the credit of admin, he/she has allowed us at times to beat them back down. It’s gotten comical at times, and I will admit I’ve gone psycho on them a couple times, but for whatever reason they’ve backed off a bit here.
It would be very interesting to hear a story about the level of DOS attacks, personal attacks, legal attacks and everything else that the owner of this site has had to endure. I for one appreciate his/her endurance to help us all understand this situation.
It would really break open if one of the presidential candidates, in a last ditch effort to stay in the race, opened the can of worms up. That would turn the tides overnite.
I think Ron Paul is saving it in his back pocket… ‘
The issue with that is, that the industry and the government would probably buy them off before they could get very far.

As stated without the option to share knowledge we would not know what we do. Please help stop Corporate control over OUR internet.
“ACTA – a global treaty – could allow corporations to censor the Internet. Negotiated in secret by a small number of rich countries and corporate powers, it would set up a shadowy new anti-counterfeiting body to allow private interests to police everything that we do online and impose massive penalties — even prison sentences — against people they say have harmed their business.”
“Europe is deciding right now whether to ratify ACTA — and without them, this global attack on Internet freedom will collapse. We know they have opposed ACTA before, but some members of Parliament are wavering — let’s give them the push they need to reject the treaty. Sign the petition — we’ll do a spectacular delivery in Brussels when we reach 500,000 signatures.”
“The oppressively strict regulations could mean people everywhere are punished for simple acts such as sharing a newspaper article or uploading a video of a party where copyrighted music is played. Sold as a trade agreement to protect copyrights, ACTA could also ban lifesaving generic drugs and threaten local farmers’ access to the seeds they need. And, amazingly, the ACTA committee will have carte blanche to change its own rules and sanctions with no democratic scrutiny.”

The Internet is now a critical form of communication & commerce.
…The United Nations now acknowledges that the internet is a basic human right.
We are learning too much, sharing knowledge at an incredible speed & peeking behind the curtain & learning that it is not a wizard controlling the strings but men whose only goal is greed & control.
Also protect generic drugs that people around the world will need access to because of the illnesses to come.

I can’t blame the Japanese government, to some extent, as they were dealing with the aftermath of a very powerful earthquake, tsunami and the icing on top. the worst nuclear disaster our planet has ever faced as they continue to overcome it’s dire effects. There just isn’t an easy solution and hopefully someone will discover the key to unlock the door to the missing core and make this horror show no more…..NO NUKES, NO NUKES, NO NUKES
I personally worry about all the aging nuke plants in the US, like Vermont Yankee, etc. securing renewal applications to keep running. It’s insane. Why not convert them to natural gas or at least require all nuclear plants to have core catchers. Yes the mean green almighty dollar is always a factor but WTF what good is money if our planet’s health and life in general is compromised? http://youtu.be/IkYx–x9wa0

Interesting story and interesting discussion thread. Thanks, all.
One facet not yet mentioned is the snippet: “We cannot rule out further developments that may lead to an unpredictable situation at Fukushima Dai-ichi”.
… as though “further developments” such as earthquakes care whether or not some bureaucrats have ruled them out! The wording strikes me as a bureaucrat’s attempt to maintain the illusion that they are in control. At best, the actual wording should be something like:
“The situation at Fukushima Dai-ichi is unpredictable.” or, more realistically:
“The situation at Fukushima Dai-ichi is out of control and we have no idea what to do but we will try to look busy. Trust us.”
Frankly, I don’t care what they think they can or cannot rule out. The nuclear situation has been out of control since long before 3/11. Some people, such as Caldicott, had noticed years ago (I had not). The bureaucrats dare not ever notice because it would make them redundant, and various industry/government/media players hope the general populace will never notice until… somehow everything is OK again (ain’t gonna happen).
Day by day, month by month, it becomes more and more obvious that nobody knows how to stop the Fukushima monster. It shouldn’t be that hard (relatively speaking) to stop the hundreds of monsters-in-waiting in the rest of the world though.
SHUT THEM ALL DOWN
Report Comment
I’m afraid that any attempts at ‘fixing’ this nuclear waste/pollution problem will be akin to locking the barn door after the horse has been stolen.
Whadda ya gonna do with tons of radioactive waste that has half lives for thousands of years – much of it rather insanely sitting in the form of spent fuel rods needing to be kept constantly bathed in cool water lest they start to fission? And lots of it buried in shallow trenches, stored in metal drums that are housed in tents, etc.?
This is what we have right now, even if magically TPTB would start doing everything right, building no more nuke plants or weapons, shutting down existing ones. But they aren’t even going to do that. They’ve got plans for new ones! Right? Now tell me they aren’t starkers… as the Brits say or used to say…
