Senior Scientist: Fukushima radiation already on West Coast of N. America — We don’t know how much is coming or how fast it’s moving, situation ‘evolving’ — Levels will continue to rise for years — Unprecedented event for Pacific, largest ever radioactive release into ocean (VIDEO)

Center for Marine and Environmental Radiation, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (Emphasis Added): The release of radioactive contaminants from Fukushima remains an unprecedented event for the people of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. […] Some Fukushima radiation has already begun to appear on the West Coast of North America and is expected to peak in most places between 2014 and 2015. […] continued leaks from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant […] sparked fears of wide-ranging impacts to the marine ecosystem and human health. Despite concerns, there is no U.S. government agency monitoring the spread of low levels of radiation from Fukushima along the West Coast and around the Hawaiian Islands—even though levels are expected to rise over coming years. Whether you agree with predictions that levels of radiation along the Pacific Coast of North America will be too low to be of human health concern or to impact fisheries and marine life, we can all agree that radiation should be monitored […]

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Jan. 14, 2014 (Emphasis Added): Although [Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution marine chemist Ken] Buesseler does not expect levels to be dangerously high in the ocean or in seafood as the plume spreads 5,000 miles across the Pacific, he believes this is an evolving situation that demands careful, consistent monitoring to make sure predictions are true. “I’m particularly excited about finding support for sampling key locations along the West Coast multiple times throughout the coming two years, because radioactivity levels are expected to be increasing,” he says.

Crowdsourcing Fukushima, Jan. 14, 2014 (Emphasis Added): […] It’s become the largest accidental source of radioactive isotopes to the ocean in history. […] We know there’s contaminated water coming out of there even today […] What we don’t really know is how fast and how much is being transported across the Pacific. Yes, models tell us it will be safe, yes the levels we expect off the US West Coast and Canada we expect to be low, but we need measurements — especially now, as the plume begins to arrive along the West Coast and will actually increase in concentration over the next 1 to 2 years. Despite public concern about the levels, no public agency in the US is monitoring the activities in the Pacific. […] Without careful, extensive, consistent monitoring, we’ll have no way of knowing how much radiation from Fukushima is reaching our shores, and how it could affect life in the ocean […]

Hi all! A brief introduction before I address the article. I'm a bit of a skeptic. If you want me to accept a causal relationship, you'll have to demonstrate it. Even a high degree of coincidence can be misleading, e.g. 98% of heroin addicts started with milk. I tend to think most perceived CONSPIRACIES are conspiracies of circumstance rather than intent. And I adore technology! Obviously, I will fit right in with this community. 🙂

Hopefully it will be a mutually beneficial experience. I'm a bit of a newb to the details of the Fukushima goings on, so please forgive any silly questions while I come up to speed. Oh, and for the record, I am nobody's shill, at least not wittingly.

On to the article at hand. The thing that jumped out at me was Buesseler's early comment that Fuku is the largest accidental spill in history. Does this imply that there have been intentional incidents that introduced greater quantities of radioisotopes into the oceans? I'm thinking specifically of bomb tests, but military and industrial dumping would also be a possibility. Anyone have further information?

    "Hi all! ….I am nobody's shill…"

Interesting way to introduce yourself to a very special, dedicated group of informed anti-nuke, anti-Fukushima cover up people.

Anyways, I'm always fascinated on how people find out about

    How'd you end up here?

Informed and anti-nuclear is an oxymoron. Please inform yourself as to the natural amount of radiation in the ocean to Fukushima. (Natural is 30000 greater)
Please inform yourself as to what Prof Ken Buessler actually said "The dose from Fukushima cesium is considered insignificant relative to the dose from naturally occurring polonium-210, which was 1000 times higher in fish samples studied"

Well, Ociffer, given the recent "conversation" here, just thought I should declare my intentions from the start. And enenews is all over the net, been here reading several times, but I've just recently decided I need to really focus & figure out some of this crap.

irhologram, thanks for the link. Now I'm really confused. lol
But I'm still thinking if a guy like Buesseler finds it necessary to qualify this as the largest 'accidental' release, he must think there was a single larger intentional or natural release. Probably not important, I'm just a bit curious.

In the late eighties i had two dreams.I have always remembered them. I was floating above Saint Judes hospital in Fullerton Ca. where i was born. Its on a hill, you can see the ocean from up there. It was midday and clear i could see out across the flat lands to the ocean. I saw the fog start to roll in, creeping across the flat lands as it does. As it got thicker and started to come up the hill. I could see faces in the mist, they were all the same, thousands, millions of them. They were round gray skin, black caps, large round wire frame glasses, slits for eyes and mouth, animated, cartoon like almost funny. As they got closer i became afraid and turned to flee I flew east fast. But it was already a dark and starless night. Darkness. Why would i remember such a dream and why was I so afraid? Only now do I understand.

Big warm hug Papa Bear. May I inspire, not scientifically, but spiritually ? I have such dreams too, frequently, they come true. From what is true for me is that we are all like waves of the of the ocean, THINKING, we are separated entities… And yet, we are expressions of the one and same ocean, created by movement – the ocean as an allegory which contains all, is all knowing, omnipresent. When we sleep, we are our egoless "Observer" , who is wide awake in those deep places of interconnectedness awareness. Time is transcended here and you "see" into the future or past – because all is there at the same time… In what I see – Fukushima initiated a new cycle in the evolution of life as we know it on this planet – there where many mass extinctions on the planet over the past 4 some Billion years… It is described in old prophecies of different cultures like the Mayas, Incas or Hopi – that we now ascend into the 5th sun – and this nuclear energy might be a new, sun like energy form, created by humans on this planet, that over the next millions of years will change the face of the earth and life on her forever… As already predicted according the visions and knowledge of the ancients, who looked at life with very different eyes than we do today – they saw that we are part of a gigantic cycle of evolution, which moves all form through birth, life and death, and we are here to bear witness, be stuarts and co-creators of the evolution of Spirit in Mater.

" Informed and anti-nuclear is an oxymoron"
    Seriously condescending.
I am anti-nuclear, and I am well informed.
    "Well informed and Pro-Nuclear".
    There's your oxymoron..
