Fukushima I Nuke Plant Reactor 6 Turbine Bldg: Smoke From Compressed Air System Control Panel
Another minor incident at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant, this time in the basement of the turbine building for Reactor 6[...]
here’s my translation from the Japanese handout on July 2, 2012. (If there are foreign correspondents in Japan who are still interested in what TEPCO has to say on Fukushima I Nuke Plant, why don’t you demand that TEPCO continue to issue these handouts in English?)
[...]
7/2/2012 10:08AM After the maintenance of the air dehumidifier for the Compressed Air System (IA System) [...] we noticed the white smoke coming from the IA System Control Panel. [...] We notified the fire department at 10:21AM. At 10:25AM, we confirmed that the white smoke had stopped. At 10:26, we found a burn at the transformer inside the control panel. Later, Namie Fire Department and Tomioka Fire Department did the site inspection, but the visual inspection of the exterior of the transformer didn’t identify the cause. [...]

Due to power surges from generators? Could be many different reasons why it cooked.

Does anyone believe this stuff?

seems odd. Can anyone believe anything they say. NO

I haven't kept up with what's going on in the various reactors but it seems to me that because of the threat from #4 and the impossibility of removing anything from the Daiichi complex after a possible collapse of #4, every single rod and anything else radioactive from all the other reactors there ought to be removed now.

Great idea. That might save a few billion living creatures from an agonizing death. Is there a good reason they aren't doing it? And did I just answer my own question?

Put this headline together with Fuksuhima Diary's: Black-ish fog covered Fukushima plant
http://fukushima-diary.com/2012/07/black-ish-fog-covered-fukushima-plant/#comments
Tepco reports a small problem in 6 at roughly the same time as blackish smoke is visible coming from area of 5 and 6
I took screen shots this morning. Ugly.

@majia. There has been a long association of "black" and condensation with nuclear radiation. Movies, a couple of books, and many pieces of music have this in their titles. the most recent I know is the 2007 excellent documentary by Steven Ozakawa, "White Light/Black Rain." This is based on the fact that shortly after the bomb exploded, it began to rain, and the rain was black.
I think this relates to the black for and the black deposits found on the ground so often.
I perhaps spelled his name incorrectly; it might be Okazawa.

I'm in Hiroshima. All future plans, buying a house, starting a small business, etc, are on hold. Just don't know what to do anymore. #4 and the rest of them are out of control. #4 will fall or leak sooner or later. I'd like to stay in Japan, wife is Japanese, maybe move to southern Kyushu, up in the mountians. Really want to avoid a panic situation before the shit hits the fan.
BTW, about the seafood being sold off of Fukushima, Arnie says they boiled them first before testing it, did not test the water after boiling, but are selling the Octopus raw. Never eating seafood again from the northern Pacific. No more canned Tuna or Fish and Chips. And I have two jars of great Tarter Sauce on the shelf from the States. Damn it!

Probably should move now….
the word is getting out and the Japanese government is going to respond repressively, I bet.
I've read that parts of Japan are less contaminated than parts of the US.
However, I don't know if the incineration in Japan has now spread the contamination everywhere.

Rodney,
Have some fun, put the tartar sauce on a rare steak.
"It's Tartare Sauce " or put it on pastrami.
as for moving south, have you considered Okinowa?

Any type of smoke is not a good sign. What is spewing in that smoke?
I believe when one gets too hot and it goes, then eventually a domino effect could very well happen. How could people be able to get close enough to keep the balance of cooling going?
Has it reached that point, I don't think there's not enough information to say for sure. From the information we do get, this disaster doesn't look good for the people and environment near or far.
In North America, how much will we get of this, how devastating is this going to be, when will it get to the point of no return, again there is no official information.
All I know is radiation is not good for us, are we already to the point of no return, who knows for sure?
Will we drop one day or will it be a slow death not noticing it? What about future generations?
Do we even know if the professional genius's around the world is working on this?
Are there things that we should take, do, or get that is better than something else?
This is new to us and getting information is not easy. There isn't full disclosure. We have our opinions on how this will play out, some will be right, some will be wrong.
When the lips are sealed, it's usually not a good sign.
Where are our updates breaking news on this disaster? The worse disaster and it wasn't covered?
Since I have to guess..I say this disaster does not look good for any of us, this monster is on the loose and it keeps coming.

Wow I missed that spelling.
It should have read ~END NUCLEAR POWER~
Maybe it should read ~END NUCLIAR POWER~

There have been an awful lot of "electical panel fires" at Daiichi over this past year. Pretty hard to believe since these systems are usually well specified and implemented.

corrosion (right on the coast), low or zero maintenance, and the new factor – radiation, will all be having an impact of plant equipment.
i've raised the question before, don't know the true answer. But I would expect that hot particles in the environment will be eating away at all materials. Similar to oxidisation, but something a little different. Metals go brittle as I understand it.
(on an expanded note, I've wondered how this will affect materials globally. Specifically, I wonder what effect it will have on aircraft flying through radiation clouds)

How could a small electrical fire INSIDE the huge turbine building possibly mask out 4 huge reactor buildings OUTSIDE on the Tepco camera for OVER TWO DAYS?
These fantasies are beginning to rival Christianity in their absurdities!
