Radiation Detected in Tea Leaves in Japan, Wall Street Journal, May 11, 2011:

A prefecture just south of Tokyo said it had detected higher-than-permissible amounts of radioactive material in tea leaves, in a reminder that Japan’s radioactive-contamination problems are far from over. [...]

According to Kanagawa officials, a sample of tea leaves collected May 9 from the city of Minamiashigara, in the western part of the prefecture, was found to contain 550 becquerels of cesium per kilogram in the first test; the second test of the same sample detected 570 becquerels. [...]

Kanagawa tested tea leaves for the first time because local farmers were about to start shipping this year’s tea leaves they had just picked. [...]

    All for not !

Just beginning ! Farmers here and around the world will feel the same dismay !

    • I know it shows up quickly in leafy forms but wouldn’t the concentrations be even more harmful in watery foodstuffs and grains etc? It seems if you ate an orange which grew in contaminated soil and was watered by contaminated liquid – wouldn’t that be one major radiation filled fruit?

    Looking at tea leaves
possible to predict future of entire food chain

The tea leaves say future not so good.

Yes, but wait, these may be safe levels according to the recently revised standards, that were recently revised, recently, that have not been announced recently.

The EPA in USA says 3 pCi/Liter is safe limit in food. These tea leaves have 550×28 = 15,400 pCi/Liter.

Have the Japanese raised their radiation levels 5,100 times the EPA?

    Will the EPA follow suit?

    • There must be a case to make where the govt can’t be adjusting ANYTHING to do with our consumption without adequate and extensive testing to back up their adjustments, right? How can you just change the amount of toxins the population can ingest without test data to back up what you are feeding them? Like they would have to provide how many pCi/Liter my salmon has as well as how many are in my carrots – like on the label right? And it would have to be tested right or it would be false advertising!

    Food limits unlimited
    The Autobahn of food safety

Raising the permissible levels in food, makes safety standards meaningless.

Subject eats food. Subject suddenly dies. Food deemed unsafe at these levels.

@Noah – You and I are on the same “wavelength” my friend! Your last reply and comments to my post about the Fukushima reactors pouring smoke are close to my exact thoughts. I appreciate your insight and perspective. (I would enjoy conversing with you directly via email if it’s not a problem. The similarities of our theories and ideas are such that I don’t believe it’s coincidence. I believe certain people in this world & on this site are being brought into communication for a reason.) I live in Texas and we have experienced massive wildfires in 252 of our 254 counties. I’ve watched flames from helicopter videos that were 40 – 100 feet high. Houses and buildings were going up in flames – in mere seconds, as if they had been doused in gasoline or some other flammable agent. Texas has had a drought for the last 5 – 6 months. As I watched the flames burn from border to border here in Texas – it occurred to me – everything in Texas WAS doused with millions of gallons of the extremely flammable “COREXIT” and other chemical agents last year used to treat the Gulf Oil Spill. In fact, it is my belief that the “Corexit” and other chemical agents used inevitability went up into the atmosphere and came back down – saturating the ground and everything else with these chemicals. I believe the extremely hot radioactive particles carried by the jet-stream from Fukushima played a major role in the massive amount of fires and the incredibly high winds. Fires were literally popping up seemingly spontaneously! This alone should wake everyone up to what is taking place. Then the tornado outbreak in the southern U.S. of approximately 300+ in three days (with 22 being in the F-5 Class), the Mississippi River flooding several states, millions of acres, destroying homes, businesses, entire towns and over 300 lives lost. This “WEATHER MUTATION” – record setting for it’s severity, began shortly AFTER Japan’s 3/11/2011 cataclysmic earthquake, tsunami, and severe nuclear disaster at Fukushima. I’m with you my friend – the weather has become unstable, unpredictable, and uncontrollable due to the massive amount of radioactive particles still being spewed high into the atmosphere and leaked into the ground from Fukushima. This is already changing/mutating the earth along with everything in it and this is only the beginning. Peace to you and let us pray a solution will soon be found.

In the beginning there was Atom and Eve. God said “You guys got it good, so don’t screw it all up by learning nuclear physics. And for God’s sake, if you do, don’t tell those evil morons about it.” Unfortunately they didn’t listen, and it’s been downhill ever since.

And now we’re nearing the end.

But some of us will probably survive, and there’ll be a new beginning, and we need to start preparing for whatever that might be. And we need to do better this time.

“…it occurred to me – everything in Texas WAS doused with millions of gallons of the extremely flammable “COREXIT”…” -Ashen

        Ashen,
It would be irresponsible for any inquiry to dismiss your observation without investigation. The conditions of plant leaf spotting, discoloration, etc., reported and photographed from around the nation cannot be dismissed. The observation of oily residue in rain water around the nation, cannot be dismissed. It is too wide spread to be a localized phenomena. And too coincidental with Corexit spraying to be dismissed.

It occurred to me after reading your post, that raw crude oil, reduced by and mixed with Corexit may be acting as a unintentional herbicide leading to the reduction and suppression of plant life in your area, magnifying the effects of drought conditions, by further diminishing growth.

The particularized oil, reduced by the Corexit, is now more easily absorbed by plant life during and after rainfall, increasing the plants flammability.

Oil and Water do not naturally mix. Corexit mixes oil and water. The plants uptake of water, pulls corexit along with crude into its cell matrix. Hence, cell death, mutation, flammability. Major contributing factor to the spread of wildfires by increasing the flammability of grasses, scrubs and trees and the perpetuation of drought conditions by suppression of plant life.

As stated above, storm cell formation is readily assisted by highly charged particles emanating from Fukushima. High winds, dry electrical storms, tornadoes and intense flooding are evidence of massive changes taking place in the Northern Hemisphere.

With all the profound flooding, I would not be surprised if the Mississippi itself, changes course and finds a different route to the gulf.

My guess is the thick concrete surrounding the pools is finally heating up more and more, not just the water (and copious debris) in the pool.

Concrete, like rock, heats slowly, but stores a vast amount of thermal energy, and thus acts as a ‘heat-sink’.

And this will tend to make for more steam, as the SFP temperatures rise over coming weeks.

The concrete also acts as an insulator, to stop heat escaping. So if you fill the pool again as it empties from evaporation, the heat conducts from the concrete back into the cool water, and heats it up even faster than before, etc.

More steam with time is the result.

At some point the entire area becomes rather hotter than it was before, and actual boiling becomes increasingly possible, particularly if debris is blocking proper convective circulation, and creating local hotspots in say a corner of a SFP.

If you then get actual vigorous boiling and water turnover then the highly radioactive sludge that has settled to the bottom of the pool, may get remobilized into the water column via this movement.

Heavy-metallic atoms and molecules don’t usually end up in steam, this is what makes distillation work so well for purifying water, so this does not mean the steam will necessarily massively spike in radioactivity.

But the water itself sure would, making work in that area very toxic.

The en-echelon problems at Fukushima are hellishly bad, and I cant see any practical method of getting the fuel rods out of those SFP ponds with all that debris on top.

Frankly, this is way more intractable and actually and potentially way more poisonous than what occurred in the Ukraine.

The global media are again asleep at the wheel, yapping about more important stuff, like do we or don’t we give Greece’s CREDITORS another bailout, and then insult everyone’s intelligence and dignity, by calling it a “Bailout for Greece”?

Meanwhile, in Fukuland the implacable poisons keep seeping out, and the issues keep multiplying as they are discovered, progressing over the next few months and years into a large unlivable zone, soon to become a large unworkable zone.

Wonder what the founding fathers of our country would think about all of this?

I don’t see much difference in the way this is being handled from the way the BP oil spill was.
In the media it said, Japan has it under control. Do those words sound familiar?

All I see is, challenges ahead.

Nuclear stigma adds to Japan’s pain

    by Staff Writers
Fukushima City, Japan (AFP) May 12, 2011
Nuclear radiation is not the only invisible enemy threatening Japan’s disaster-hit Fukushima — its people say they also face discrimination and the stigma of being “Japan’s Chernobyl”.

Nihonmatsu’s mayor Keiichi Miho said his city would seek compensation from the government and plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) for the region’s damaged image and its economic consequences.

“We are now suffering four difficulties — the quake, the tsunami, the radiation and the rumours,” he told AFP. “I would like the country and TEPCO to take full responsibility for the damage.”
