Title: Fukushima Daiichi: Inside the debacle
Source: Fortune via CNN
Authors: Bill Powell and Hideko Takayama

Public opposition to nuclear power now runs hot in Japan. Far from fading over the last year, opposition seems to have expanded to a solid majority of citizens nationwide, putting both Noda’s government and Japan’s big business community (which needs the electricity) in a very difficult spot. The reason for that is the debacle of Fukushima Daiichi—the six-reactor power station owned and operated by the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) —and the many questions that still surround the terrifying events that began on March 11, 2011.
Title: Mayday for Japan’s nuclear industry
Source: The Australian
Author: Rick Wallace
Date: Apr 21, 2012
TO the squeals of delight from environmentalists – and howls of protest from industry – Japan will awake on the morning of May 6 a nation powered entirely by non-nuclear sources of energy.
[...] While the government is pushing all out for the Oi restart, Democratic Party of Japan insiders say it has deeply divided the ruling party.Mr Matsushita’s press conference was attended by five DPJ MPs opposed to the restart.
DPJ MP Kuniko Tanioka said the restart was “unforgivable” and showed that the government was unduly influenced by the nuclear industry.
“Before we can talk about breaking with nuclear power generation, we need to break up the nuclear village in the parliament,” she said.
Another DPJ MP, Ben Hashimoto, said opposition within the party was growing. “I would say as many as half of us are against the idea of restart,” he said.

!! Even ahead of Germany, its onetime Axis ally. Japan needs to really lead … and it will be the women, because Japanese men are incapable of individual thought, it seems …
Once bitten (Hiroshima) twice shy (Fukushima) JAPAN WAKE UP.
Or … after proving such an unlikely "hero" at Hiroshima, the lowly atom revealed her true feelings about man messing with her stuff at FUK U shima …
Brother Barack, why can't YOU get it right on nuclear after Fukushima? All governments hitching their sails to nuclear, post-Fukushima, will lose all credibility with their electorate (if they have to think about such a thing), and that's a fact.
Leaders are supposed to LEAD and not blindly follow some pre-arranged deal. A leader needs to react to changes in circumstances, before it's too late, on the battlefield or in the realm of national industrial policy.
If a leader such as BARACK OBAMA cannot CHANGE his POSITION on NUCLEAR POWER POST Fukushima, he does NOT DESERVE re-election. For WHY MIGHT YOU NOT PREFER A MITT ROMNEY WHO MIGHT JUST CHANGE HIS MIND? (Say it out loud and it's better.)
Peace you loving fools … and out.
Report Comment
If, after Fukushima, Mitt Romney can't run on an anti-nuclear platform, hoping that he will change his mind is naive at best. Republicans are always pro corporation, rip off the poor person, and destroy the environment.
Report Comment
My posit, with rhyming couplet "Might prefer Mitt who might change …" is meant as rhetorical humor … with a helplessness twist … Might Mitt Might … and bring some focus onto the subject that the target is Barack. If he has been compromised by Big Nuclear to the degree he can't get this right … I mean how much patience with the man should/could we have.
I know it's a bit sideways ……… but I'm trying to recast the debate here. The elephant in the room is Big Nuclear, their lies, their abuse of process; their big spending. If Barack is in Nuclear's thrall, a la Theoden of Rohan under Wormwood's spell, well, in such a hopeless situation, there is a glint of gallows humor in "Mitt might change his mind" … which can help get the primary message across. … a spoon full of sugar sort of thing. Just sayin' …

Enviros often squeal with delight at times like these.
You cant blame them really becuase there is little to be delighted about in contemporary environmental terms.
However, any celebration at this time is premature.
Save the high fives for when the cabal, bankers and government actually turn the page. Right now they are busy saving nuclear power.
Rolling blackouts and other such fear mongering will force Japan to accept the will of the cabal and kick these babies back into gear.
The shutdown has more to do with trying to salvage the damaged reactors and push all the actual impacts under the rug while at the same time proving Japans dependence on their carcinogen factories.

Spot on, Aftershock!
Only through education and knowledge of the truth about the horrors of nuclear radiation, will we be able to counter these criminals who have no compunction about lying through their teeth to keep their bank accounts full.
It starts at the top, with who decides what goes into the curriculum taught in our schools, as well as who controls the messaging of the mass media, the two main ways information has been "imparted" to the masses in the past. Obviously, those in decision-making capacities in the past have done us all a HUGE disservice, given our lack of awareness about these issues up until 3/11.
All I can say is thank Goodness for the new information dissemination tool, social media. It is about time the people had such a wondrous and empowering tool. The "Controllers" of Information be damned!

agreed What-About-The-Kids. I'd add that they are now attempting to generate fear within the online community, that we're all being monitored and profiled. This is nothing more than a ploy. They're lost control of the propaganda machine. But we should all be aware that when this happens, they usually move to false flag operations to get their way. So, we must all be suspicious of anyone who suggests aggressive tactics.
Sad reality is, if none of us or this site existed, nuclear power would continue to sink. They're learning that you can suppress the truth, but that doesn't change reality…

also… what are the particulate size that i should be looking to filter? i want to filter tritium from FPL and fallout from FUKU, as well as bromine (which is in the water in miami-dade county). what do i need to look for as an air filter as well? this cabon filter cartridge sais 10 nm, but there are 2 filters then an RO membrane as well…
can we PM eachother on this site? would be nice.

Good for you, DaddyFixIt! Way to be proactive!
From what I understand, Tritium, being a Hydrogen molecule (H3) is so much like water (H2O) that you cannot filter it out of water. Lovely, hmmm?
The EPA's website states the only solution is dilution…Gosh, given the fact that ALL NPPs leak tritium in the air via steam and tritiated water from/their pipes into the surrounding ground water, I guess the nukers forgot to do the "projections" and "assumptions" they so love to do regarding a future day when all the fresh, uncontaminated ground water has been used up and there is no uncontaminated water left to dilute our drinking water with…
Smart thinking, guys! But hey, NRC, just continue to approve the relicensing of these leaking ancient dinosaurs and let's all build more so we can speed up the process of nuking our drinking water supplies!
/end sarc but NOT an end to my disgust and anger at these criminals who are either stupid or insane or both!
Report Comment
True. Filtering Tritium = impossible.
Report Comment
Wanted to add RE: Tritium, not only can it NOT be filtered it does NOT dilute in water either. NASA traced Tritium from Bomb fallouts in the 60's to how far it moved in 20 years in the ocean.
Once released, much of the tritium becomes part of the water cycle. Falling to earth as radioactive rain and snow, it accumulates in the environment. Freezing, melting, evaporating, and raining down again, it seeps into groundwater and flows into streams, lakes, rivers, aquifers, and oceans. It is also taken up by all living organisms.
Radioactive tritium became a perfect marker for tracking ocean water §. Scientists sampling North Atlantic water found that tritium released into the atmosphere before the 1962 nuclear test ban treaty, mixed downward by 1973. By 1980, the same tritium had moved into deep areas off Florida. The water had taken about 20 years to travel 3000 miles (4800 km) through the sea at an average speed of less than half a mile a day, about half the speed of a snail §.

@daddyfixit: Now that we know nuclear power has been so heavily subsidized by all of us over these last six decades, could we not divert a portion of those funds towards alternative energy systems? And while we're at it, let's apportion those same funds towards advanced alternative energy systems R&D and conservation incentives. Whatever is leftover can go towards environmental remediation; cleaning up the thousands of toxic nuclear waste sites that were quietly imposed on our – once – beautiful planet.
BTW. your RO is springing leaks because you didn't terminate the hose-ends properly. You need to plastic tube cutter that's designed for clean-cutting. If the tubes are not perfectly cut, they won't seat properly within the fittings…

Is Fukushima's Doomsday Machine About to Blow?
http://www.opednews.com/articles/Is-Fukushima-s-Doomsday-Ma-by-Mike-Whitney-120420-44.html
Mounting troubles at Japan's hobbled Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant now pose a real threat to human survival. If the area in which Unit 4 is struck by another 7.0 magnitude earthquake, there's a 70 percent chance that "the entire fuel pool structure will collapse" and massive doses of lethal nuclear radiation will be released into the atmosphere.
The disaster would release approximately "134 million curies is Cesium-137 — roughly 85 times the amount of Cs-137 released at Chernobyl as estimated by the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection (NCRP)." Experts believe that the amounts are sufficient to "destroy the world environment and our civilization," which makes containment "an issue of human survival." yes precisely NN.
As I have said all along and some posts here have supported. The impacts from the quake have shook this industry to the bone.
Many plants were impacted.
To what extent we will never know. As I said above this is no time to celebrate but rather at time to underscore how obvious it is Japan does not need 54 of these fricken things.
Given the lies they have told about the plant that blew up, it is pretty clear they have kept all eyes trained on just Daichi while pushing the EQ impacts on the others under the rug.
This industry is simply the worst thing on the face of the planet.
Run by psychopaths, which is why I posted the Caldicott presentation. I was very pleased to see her take this tact and underscore the need to evaluate the psychology that drives this stuff.
