Study claims Tokyo newborns had ‘safe’ 1,140 microsievert thyroid dose — Only counted food and water — Did not include inhaled radioactivity — Did not include first 10 days when iodine and other short-lived isotopes peaked

Title: Scientists: Radiation doses at safe levels in Tokyo
Source: AJW by The Asahi Shimbun
Author: YURI OIWA
Date: March 13, 2012
Emphasis Added

Radiation doses from tap water and foods consumed by Tokyo residents following the accident at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant remain at safe levels, scientists at the University of Tokyo said March 12.

[...]

However, the study may not give the full picture.

“Doses from exposure to radioactive iodine between March 18-20 last year [What about March 12-17?], immediately following the nuclear disaster, cannot be neglected,” [Michio Murakami, project lecturer at the university] said. “But we have not been able to evaluate them reliably because of the scarcity of data.”

The scientists estimated the doses of internal exposure to radioactive iodine and cesium from the intake of beverages and food during a one-year period from March 21, 2011 [...]

The calculations are based on the results of an analysis by the Bureau of Waterworks of the Tokyo metropolitan government, the health ministry and other agencies on the radioactive content of tap water, dairy products, vegetables, seafood, tea and other items. They also took into account the health ministry’s data on the average intake of different food groups by age bracket. [...]

When those measures were taken into account the topical thyroid gland doses of internal exposure to radioactive iodine were evaluated at 1,140 microsieverts for newborns, 970 microsieverts for infants and 280 microsieverts for adults. [...]

So, we're supposed to ignore the fact that the truth's been hidden from the world public over the last year? I guess if these assurances are coming from a man of letters, we can all go back to sleep now…

If no record,no photo, writings, are made during any disasters, the evil and demons will come and deny it, after some time.

      This number means absolutely NOTHING.

What is the absorbed dose in Bequerels per kilogram? What age is the child or baby?

Bequerels per kilogram is how INTERNAL radiation is measured everywhere else in the world and around Chernobyl in the contaminated zones. Why are they using this new method, and how are they measuring it? Is this an estimate or actual radiation measurements from something like a dosimeter?

It is meaningless to talk about microsieverts and safety when it comes to children, babies and adults. Each has a different weight, etc.. Dr. Helen Caldicott MD says that a fetus is affected by the same radiation 2,000 times more than an adult with the same dose. A child is affected 20 times more than an adult.

One nano particle of plutonium that does not even register on a Geiger Counter can cause a permanent birth defect in a fetus, egg, or sperm cell.

Hot particles that everyone breathes in also cause consequences.

Direct exposure to hot radiation spots also has a separate effect that only direct body measurement can detect. Where are they covering these kinds of exposures and dangers?

No iodine 132, 133, 135, 129…no breathing exposure taken into account… missing the first 10 days when it was worst. Pseudoscience marches on.

  • how many more clicks per minute in comparison to before fuku "thyroids" would be nice.

what they say is in 1 year internal exposure gave 1 millisievert and as it is not decontaminated it will be 20 millisievert with the age of twenty not counting ongoing contamination of everything.
    is that right?
it is enough in numbers, no matter if the nummbers are faked, that means a lifelong dose in twenty years.

they have no idea on how to cure this

    * Newborn babies will uptake iodine at rates 16 times higher than adults
    Iodine-131 uptake:

    * Infants under the age of one have an 8 times higher uptake than adults
    * Five year old children have four times the adult uptake rate
    * Pregnant mothers have increased thyroid uptake. Most noted in the first trimester.
    * The unborn have an increased thyroid uptake in the second and third trimester of pregnancy
    * Nursing Mothers can secrete 25% of iodine reserves to their babies

Iodine-131 can physically persist in the environment for a full 22 weeks based on it's half life of approximately 8 days. However, it has a half life WITHIN the body of 100 days (biological half life) once inhaled or ingested.

Which, of course, means the biological half life is moot; all of the I131 will have decayed and delivered its payload long before the first 100 days is reached

They lack data because they lack the government's willingness to share the entire truth, and are probably constantly monitored for whatever they find and told repeatedly not to tell the public.

And what about the elderly? Iodine negatively effects them almost as much it does children.

I can't help but think of my aunt who recently died of thyroid cancer when I read articles like this…

They claim 280 microsieverts for an adult exposure.

Ok, let's start with this 'official' number.

According to Dr. Caldicott MD, a fetus is 2,000 times more sensitive than an adult to the same dose, so we must multiply

    280 microsieverts x 2,0000 = 560,000 microsieverts equivalent exposure for a fetus.

    What does this mean?

Hmmmm, I guess it is less than 1 Gajillion, so that sounds 'safe'…

    NOT
