Title: Should we measure plutonium concentrations in marine sediments near Fukushima?
Source: Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry

Excerpt
Much less information is available in the case of plutonium isotopes. Trace amounts of Pu isotopes originating from the accident have been identified in soil samples. While it is known that atmospheric releases of Pu were several orders of magnitude lower than that from Chernobyl accident, no information on Pu isotopes in the liquid direct releases to the sea is available. Pu isotopes have been measured in marine sediments outside a 30 km radius circle around Fukushima. Results do not show any contamination due to the accident. Instead Pu isotopes here detected are attributed to global fallout. However, the situation inside the 30 km zone remains unknown. It could be possible that Pu isotopes entered this coastal area from the direct release of contaminated water in early April 2011. The objective for this work consists of showing, by means of numerical modelling, that, if Pu contamination originating from the accident would be present in sediments of the close area to Fukushima, contamination would not reach areas far from the plant. Contamination would be restricted to the close area because of the low mobility of Pu. Thus, it would not be detected if samples are not collected there. Consequently, further studies on the determination of Pu isotopes in seawater and sediments within the 30 km zone would be required.
Note the objective: “The objective for this work consists of showing [...] that, [...] Pu contamination [...] would not reach areas far from the plant.”

And of course, the Japanese government is allowing no one to take samples within 30 km of the plant.

Normally, this might be so.. however, remember, all the sodium from the salt water.. buckey balls.. allowing plutonium and uranium to travel further, farther and quicker than ever before. Never seen before…

yes I remember buckey balls

We're waay past that. More coverup of the most frightening ELE in earth's history.

That's just bullshit! I've got the over-fly data that says quite the opposite!
MORE THAN HALF of what went up, was plutonium! TRUE, 1/3 was transmuted to U-234 ! But the remainder WAY WAY surpassed Chernobyl !!
THEY were NOT running Plutonium in the reactor! So only had the 5-7% By-Products
Fukushima WAS! 212 kilos was in the CORE.. THAT went into the EARTH!.. The POOL had over 65 MOX rods, AND 50+ 10+years OLD Plutonium BREEDERS sitting in it! THAT is what made it go BOOM!
I'll lay it out again…
700 lbs per rod, and the MOX that's 142 +/- lbs of material EACH!

DO THE NUMBERS, FOLKS!

Umm, how they can determine it wasnt as bad as Chernobyl when no one knows how much plutonium rose up to the atmosphere?

The objective: (Before they start.)
"…showing [...] that, [...] Pu contamination [...] would not reach areas far from the plant."
"..no information on Pu isotopes in the *liquid direct releases to the sea is available."
Therefore:
"Results do not show any contamination due to the accident."
I get it! If there is no data, then the problem does not exist.
The Nuclear Industry seems to follow this pattern a lot.
I would also say this article seems to contradict itself, but their objective is clear.
* A "liquid direct releases" is Nuke Speak for "SERIOUS massive leaks of plutonium!".
(note: I learned this from Mr. Gundersen today.)

Wait , there is more : in 2012 the bottom of the laguna in front of the complex was 'paved' with concrete ! – sorry couldn't find again the article in Asahi – .
Covering evidence a la Mafia !

OMG!… I don't even know where to START on this jerks TRIPE!
FACTS:
1: When you fission to super-critical (Bomb) Plutonium-239… you get Uranium-234 as a result!
2: So ALL the Plutonium-239,240,241 now being found..? CAME from a REACTOR! There isn't any other source!
When you fission Uranium to super critical(Bomb) you get Plutonium-238. NOT Pu-239, NOT Pu-240, NOT Pu-241 !!! NO IF-OR-BUTS!
3: due to limits on sustainable diameters of a fission-super critical event? Not much more than 10-12 kilos of the 212 kilos of plutonium got fission-transmuted in the #3 blast! The remainder was everything from CHUNKS, to 0.05 MICRONS in size.. and that travels the world now! It passes from your lungs into blood!
4: There IS DATA on Pu-239 in water… salt water specifically!
WHY!? Because it makes "FULLERINES" or better-known as "Bucky-Balls" and they are the best way of weaponizing chemical agents for warfare! It does this on it's own… naturally! This gives the radioactive particles… world-circuiting RANGE!
5: It doesn't matter where you live… your now breathing it in every day! Event the southern countries didn't get spared from this nightmare!
6: The longer this goes on, the more you'll have, the sooner you'll DIE! Between the blasts, and the rods burning up!? 12 tons of this stuff has gone "OFF-CAMPUS" from not just the site, but Japan entirely! Both the USA and Europe in the north, and Australia in the south are registering it in fallout…

Pattie I will go on the record re-iterating the importance of plutonium in this disaster.
I don't know if what you say about the a.) plutonium rods and b.) the fire in the common spent fuel pool, are true.
But I do know that there were MOX fuel rods in reactor 3 that were vaporized (or whatever chemical process occurred that transformed them into aerosols).
Spent fuel rods burned in pools. That is fact. How many and how long are disputed.
Plutonium was found in Lithuania that was from Fukushima (determination based on the C134/C137 ratio).
I also know that Japan has been stockpiling plutonium like crazy for decades. Some of that plutonium went missing about 1 year before the 3-11 disaster.
Who knows where it went?
There were other disasters also. Tokai, especially. What about that DU refining company that burned?
The radiation vomited on 3/11 and after is DEADLY SERIOUS.
I just cannot find enough data on deposition to really appreciate how deadly for how many people.
I just know this is far worse than Chernobyl. They lied about Chernobyl and much of the world believes them.
Will they be able to lie about this one?
I think its bad enough that the truth will out….

"The radiation vomited on 3/11…"
"I just know this is far worse than Chernobyl."
– majia
"I know it too." – ChasAha
IMO, 'far worse' is an understatement.
Chernobyl was about a week and one melted core.
It was not near an ocean where earthquakes and possible tsunamis loom daily.
The fact is that the Nuclear Industry will continue to spew and skew numbers.
Why not? They are already murderers.
However, our safety is utmost in their mind. [sarc]

PattieB, what is the source of the n.jpg you posted? I notice this is a secure site. Are other photos on this site? Thanks in advance.
