Nuclear Safety Chief Says Lax Rules Led to Fukushima Crisis – Businessweek http://buswk.co/wPPrzW via @BW Stand Out Quotes:
“The root of the problem lies in the fact that, when other countries implement changes, Japan spends time making excuses as to why we don’t have to follow,” “You blame the bureaucracy and operators, but aren’t you the one whose actions make the least sense” as the head of atomic safety?" “The safety review system used before the Fukushima accident was wrong,” “The same system is being used for the current stress tests without taking into consideration the causes of the Fukushima accident.”

THIS IS MAJOR! CHOMSKY SPEAKS OUT!! "Towards a citizen of the world court" Comments from Chomsky http://fukusima-sokai.blogspot.com/2012/02/blog-post_9326.html?spref=tw
Life of these children are at risk, would be to face the same fear of subsequent generations.
That the disaster of catastrophic consequences for Fukushima is the reason was evident immediately after the accident, is the situation then, surprising that scale becomes more apparent, the future is predicted worse outcome. MORE AT LINK

Thanks, Whoopie! It is good to hear someone of Mr. Chomsky's intellect and notoriety in America actually speak up for the children of Japan. Where are the voices of our other illustrious leaders??? Are they awake and aware and just hiding from the truth? Or.are they in the dark, like most people, thanks to the MSN blackout?

TEPCO is correct in that this gauge is now faulty. But it's faulty because their "diagnostic" of it promptly caused it to fail. Presumable because they jacked some serious amperage through it to blow it out and maintain their cold shutdown status. The gauge is useless now.

Farawayfan, what's your take on this, please?

"Only since decrease is gauge failure indicated on Tepco data". I don't get the significance of this. I would have expected Tepco to claim the gauge was defective when it jumped to 200+ and I thought that's what they had done. I'm in agreement with your notion about diagnostic-induced failure (deliberate or otherwise), but….

Is it now our view that reactor 2 has not really changed much since the endoscopy – that the gradual temperature increase was in fact just a bad gauge? Alternatively, is reactor 2 slowly building to some major recriticality event or is it cycling, as some have suggested, with local on-again off-again pockets going critical?

Do we think that all their extra water and boron was helpful or did they over-react to a bad gauge situation?

I think I've lost track of the plot-line for reactor 2.

        Howdy,

I think they declared it faulty right after the "diagnostic", the "indicated" line just means they started putting it in their reports then.

I think 2 has globs, I'm concerned there is a mega-glob that is steadily burning down. Does that mean catastrophic release, or will it break up into parts as it take the path of least resistance, I don't know. Either way, it'll be a mess. I don't think the extra water or boron does anything significant past make the temp gauges look better, I think the melted core glop can't be cooled properly at this point, since they've lost the geometric structure that allows for a high surface area/volume ratio.

Of course, it's all a shell game since R3 and SFP4 and tented R1 are all kablooie more or less as well.

I've lost track too, Aigeezer. How can this new report mean anything at all if the guage is not working as they claim? The temperature spikes were not valid according to them, so a subsequent drop in temperature from same that gauge would also be invalid (especially now that they purposefully fried it during the "test.")

My question is: are they currently working on replacing the faulty gauge, or more likely, if the original is not accessible, are they attempting to put a working thermistor (is that the correct term?)/thermometer in there now?

Whoopie (and Japanese speakers) I tried to post this comment (below) at this website but not sure if it got posted – mostly Japanese language there -

    http://fukusima-sokai.blogspot.com/2011/11/urgent-appeal-to-save-children-of.html?spref=fb

    My comment –
"I am so glad to see someone taking some action here. Saving the children is of first importance. But next – a great crime against humanity has been perpetrated, by TEPCO, the Japanese government, & the entire CORRUPT NUCLEAR POWER INDUSTRY & THE GOVERNMENTS COMPLICIT WITH IT!

Millions of people have been harmed, are being harmed, & will be harmed – not only in Fukushima & elsewhere in Japan, but globally.

The people of Fukushima were LIED TO, told they were safe. They are NOT BEING COMPENSATED for loss of property, income, damage to health, etc.! This in itself is CRIMINAL! I think that more legal action is absolutely imperative, perhaps similar to war crimes trials.

Where are the lawyers who will help, at least by offering legal opinion re the nature, form, etc. of appropriate legal charges and action?"

Any IDEAS, Whoopie or anyone else, about how we can put forth an appeal to LAWYERS to offer some advice re this whole issue of legal action/charges? Advice could be offered anonymously.

I have been stunned to see this whole thing happening & the responsible parties just going completely unscathed – nary a word anywhere re the fact that Fukushima, Japan, & the WORLD have been lied to re nuclear power and its 'safety'.

Talk about a monumental instance of wrongful injury, damage, false information leading to great harm of those who relied on the information. I don't even know enough law to know how to frame this legally. But I know that a huge crime lies behind this disaster, a HUGE CRIME AGAINST MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO TRUSTED THEIR GOVERNMENT(S) AND THE NUCLEAR POWER INDUSTRY AND ARE NOW PAYING WITH THEIR LIVES, THEIR CHILDREN'S LIVES, AND THEIR HARD-EARNED PROPERTY AND SAVINGS.

+100 Bleep! Excellent comments and accessment of the situation. I'm not an attorney, but it does seem the citizens of Japan would certainly have a legal basis for suing. I've read elsewhere some lawsuits are now starting to make their way to the courts. This is huge, and will likely take years…

I visited the site but did not see your comments. Perhaps still in moderation mode?

    Acme Novelty -
    "Reactor Spewing

    "Hehhehheh" wiley Tepco thinks
    "This will help hide
    that we're on the brink

    and with J-gov Co.
    wings made of wax,

    So after the
    roadrunning nuclear dust,
    the long-nosed lying Tep-coy-ote

Hi StillJill, I figured those "of a certain age" here – like me – would remember those cartoons and maybe, that helps lighten the heavy load a little.
        I liked "J-gov Co." – I'll probably recycle that!
I seem to be cartoon spamming the threads today. It goes with having the fate of the kids on my mind I guess.
I read "The Road" several weeks ago and it haunts me. The impact it had on me will never leave me. Never. The nukers must be stopped, no matter what it takes…

I need to read that,…I saw the flick about four years ago when it came out. (I've heard the flick was awful compared to the book),…gee, where have I heard that before? Tough to do I'm sure, with such a HUGE subject matter! ( "The Road", I'm talking about here)

Indeed, the cartoons are a real soothing place to feel oneself,…I only feel for those not from the US, many of our jokes and 'ribs' must go over their heads somewhat. I truly feel RUDE sometimes,…like I'm speaking a foreign language in a local elevator, Ya know?

But, someday soon, we'll all speak as ONE! :-)

          And, humor is pretty universal.

Hey, StillJill, I worry about the wordplay for non-native English speakers too, but, it's the only language I've got, so…
I never saw the movie version of "The Road". I wouldn't now. I am very "visual", and if it's as powerful as some have said, well…
If you do read it, be warned – it is devastatingly bleak, terribly heartbreaking (it was for me), but somehow, within that, there is a light, and a hope, not really for the characters, but for us, I think, if we can focus on the children and all they represent.

There WERE protests in Japan against the development of nuclear power there; I know this because Leuren Moret has spoken of it and was active in these protests.

My point here is that those who rammed this whole nuclear power thing thru in Japan cannot claim IGNORANCE. 'Due diligence' requires that those in power in such matters, in making such decision, be informed. They wWERE informed and ignored the information. The result has been criminal wrongful damage and injury – on a scale unprecedented in history – to the people of Japan and the Northern Hemisphere (for starters – it is spreading south too).

Another thing that has surprised me is that Japan seems to be getting along OK with most of its nuclear power plants not operating!

So have we ALL been lied to, from the beginning, about how 'necessary' these power plants have been? These plants were PORK from the beginning, just like the 'cold war' and all of the many many redundant nuclear bombs that were created.

Government stands by with its deep pocket (OUR money, confiscated through taxation) to pay/subsidize monumental building/start-up expenses, offer cheap or free money, be the insurer because private insurers will not take on the risk.

FOLLOW THE MONEY and we see that 'the money' is what it seems to have been all about!
