Plant decontamination not working, NHK, June 22, 2011:

The Tokyo Electric Power Company is looking into why a system for decontaminating radioactive water at the Fukushima Daiichi plant is not working as expected, delaying resumption of the system’s full-scale operation. [...]

The data show that density of Cesium-13 [sic?] and Cesium-137 dropped to only one-100th of initial levels.

An earlier test run using water with a lower density of radioactivity showed a drop to about one-1000th. [...]

    dang.

enenews, keep up the great work!!!
    absolutely fantastic.

The headline seems to be wrong. The radiation dropped just to 1/100 than the expected 1/1000. So only 99% instead of 99.9% is removed.
    That’s not just 1% ;-)

Use of Cartridge Based Water Purification
Lifestyle Changes in a post 311 world

The Video contains a photo of the cartridge based water purification systems now in use at Fukushima Dai-ichi.

I recommended residential scaled cartridge based RO systems in prior posts. Encapsulated cartridges make it safe and easy to changed out filtration media, without radioactive spills in your kitchen or bathroom.

Avoid Sump based systems if possible.

Sump based systems are potentially hazardous, and guarantee spillage during filter change outs.

More wasted effort by TEPCO, but especially by the brave souls who are working there. At this point in the process, absolutely nothing is going to be easy to accomplish. It seems like nothing is cooperating with making this mess go away, even just a little bit.

  • i believe Tepco doesnt give a damn about the Fukushima or the people there and cares only about stock price. Also i believe they might be dumping spent fuel rods into the sea to cool them. http://radioactive.eu.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=223:is-tepco-dumping-fuel-rods-in-the-sea&catid=38:fp-rokstories&Itemid=212

Stock Price, a bit late to worry about that.

Easier explanation: You can’t do what you have to do, so you do what you can, relevant or otherwise. There was a term for this that currently evades me but my canary used to bite his foot when frustrated.

Better watched than indulged, not that any of us are currently out of the ring here.

This is the letter I sent arnie gunderson and alexander higgins on april 15th @ 1205pm…
Attn: Arnie Gundersen, Chief Engineer contact@fairewinds.comThere were spent nuclear fuel rods located between reactors 3 and 4. (mainly thought to be from reactor 3).

HOWEVER WITH THIS IN MIND the nuclear spent fuel rods were bulldozed
      (as reported by nisa).

      http://uvdiv.blogspot.com/2011/04/us-industry-source-spent-fuel-fragments.html

      http://i.min.us/imOPYq.pdf

(RC says it was between Units 3 and 4)…

The fire on the april 7th, to-date, has no images posted, meanwhile the fire on the 12th was located near reactor 4… (On the shore line)…

      Fire-and-smoke-in-a-building-near-Reactor-No.-4-at-Fukushima-on-April-12.jpg

Could tepco have bulldozed the spent nuclear fuel rods into the ocean?

They did not report containing them in any way… These also were potentially mox fuel rods…

There is no way workers could work near these dangers. They had to be contained right???

      Could this explain:
A: the cause for the fire near the ocean front in reactor 4 (that was ignited twice).
B: the rising of Oceanic Radiation Levels.
C: Why tepco reported using a bulldozer (which pushes) instead of a steam roller that crushes.
      D: The reported Neutron Beams
E: High amounts of Radiation leaks
F: The release of strontium and plutonium
G:why the ocean is tremendously releasing radiation.

You cant just bulldoze them and call it a day. You have to contain them…
I strongly feel this is How tepco contained these fuel Rods.

This is my theory / thoughts on a crime against humanity I am releasing it to fairewinds, in hopes your able to make some conclusion from it.
      Thanks and Cheers
      Emmy;)”

BTW, She received no response from Fairewinds.

If so, it won’t take any time at all for electrolyosis to eat through the casings…

Sea water is not only salty and caustic, but it is also electrically charged, making metal corrosion faster …

filter it 10 times, 100 times, 1000 times, in the end make tepco drink it.

Fukushima will never be cleaned up.
It will remain a barren radiated landscape
emitting radiation. No body can safely work
in there anymore. It is all a Noh drama
now. Empty gestures to assure and sanitize.
To keep the panic away we all are being
denied up to date radiological data. There are
too many other nuclear installations that
are near critical with most of them leaking
radiation. I do not see any medical
    technological breakthroughs that will
allow the human organism to adapt to
radiation, nor do I believe in new age
theories of mind over matter in protecting
from the fall out. Living in Dark Times.
Aside from the above gloom, all we have
is the here and now so do our best to
live it out with dignity, kindness and charity and hopefully with some happiness.

  • The figures they give for the level in the waste water must be a huge discrepancy as all the other numbers of contamination have been !

  • PPL, go check TBS/JNN and compare it to TEPCO cam right now! There is a crane pumping water in reactor no.1 and its smoking on TBS… nothing on TEPCO!

  • Fall out man!

Even if Tepco does clean up the waste water, what will they be doing with the contaminants they remove? If they really are taking fuel rods or other debris out to be dumped at sea, then one can only speculate as to where they might dump any toxic waste they remove from the water. In the bad old days Japan used to dump Nuke waste in the pacific. It caused quite a stir down here in NZ when the media mentioned what they were doing. (many years back) Surely that is highly likely to happen now with all the waste and rods they can remove. So in a sense, if the process doesn’t work, at least that keeps the waste where it is, rather than being dumped in someone else’s back yard.

    • well not gonna happen with Tepco. Few days back there was an article about burning the “low radioactive” ruble and then the radioactivity will be filtered from the air…

OH REALLY? Why arent they filtering the damn air now but are rather opening the doors and leting it out?

Beacuse the BS about cleaning radioactivity from the air is just that… BS.

The excerpt says it all… with less contaminated water it removed all but 1/1000th of contamination. With more contamination the efficiency goes down and 1/100th is left. This is perfectly reasonable and expected. What is interesting is that they claim this American made equipment isn’t working…. yet it removes 99% of contamination! It’s TEPCO’s excuses that are broken, not the filtering equipment.
