Two Other Reactors Suffer Serious Damage, Wall Street Journal by Mitsuru Obe, May 15, 2011:

Substantial damage to the fuel cores at two additional reactors of Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex has taken place, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Sunday, further complicating the already daunting task of bringing them to a safe shutdown while avoiding the release of high levels of radioactivity. [...]

The pressure vessel a cylindrical steel container that holds nuclear fuel, “is likely to be damaged and leaking water at units Nos. 2 and 3,” said Junichi Matsumoto, Tepco spokesman on nuclear issues, in a news briefing Sunday.

He also said there could be far less cooling water in the pressure vessels of Nos. 2 and 3, indicating there are holes at the bottom of these vessels [...]

  • Question! When did they really know they had this problem??

You’re right 3 objects, I missed the one near the top of photo.I hope they are taking more pics and thermal imaging as I don’t trust the temps since the water level gauges were incorrect.

Is it any coincidence that whenever a considerable amount of steam starts venting from any of the buildings (which I saw earlier), that live feed takes a dump? Someone suggested fog? I saw no fog roll in. I checked in to the live feed earlier, and it was a clear night shot of all 4 buildings. Came back and checked again 20 minutes later, and picture was black. Seeing as how dawn is just about due to break in Fukushima, I would expect to hear birds in the audio, IF it was just fog covering the camera view. Turn your audio up loud, no birds, only a weird, ominous resonating hum, with an alternating frequency. Is that sound coming from the reactors? Some machinery? Weird.

I have a couple of questions:

As the level of radioactivity increases, does that mean the amount being released into the air increases?

If there is no smoke or steam coming from the reactors, but still incredibly high levels of radiation being measured, that still means there is radiation rising into the air, correct?

In other words… even though we can’t see it, we can assume a constant plume of radioactive isotopes rising into the air, correct?

Just yesterday these liars were reporting about how pressure was holding in these reactors at multiples of atmosphere – and they now admit the same pressure vessels have holes in them.

Anyone know of anybody doing their own measurements on the west coast of the US that are posting them online, other than the Enviroreporter in Los Angeles? I live in Corvallis, Oregon and have had some curious respiratory symptoms.

Koz – I’ve been following this guy in Oregon but don’t know anything about him or the site other then the readings posted daily and links here.

As for the questions above regarding release into the atmosphere….basically absent an explosive release the main fear would be significant heat creating an upwelling of radioactive material through the atmosphere which is then swept here by the jet stream. Radioactive material in Japan isn’t going to cause a problem here unless it irradiates a particle that is somehow transported here.

I wonder if I came up with a way to make energy, that could make me a lot of money, but at the same time put the whole planet and mankind and every living creature at risk, would I think that it’s a good idea. Would i be able to talk people into moving ahead with the idea in hopes that they would become rich along with me? I wonder how we all agreed to this crazy as all hell idea and let it go on as long as we have or in other words until it finished us off….either greed has really bliinded us, apathy ruled us and stupidity was are strongest characteristic….let’s face it we never got into the No Nukes rallies so here we are 40 years later watching the world go away.

Anyone know what the real radiation levels are for the West Coast of N America? I’m on Vancouver Island. Not many people about when it rains … Are we under a huge plume of Plutonium?

Many sites point to Xenon-133 since it has the most dramatic graphics. I wonder why the focus on Xenon-133, since it is not that harmful? (Or, am I wrong on this. It is used in hospitals for lung diagnostics and so on, but …).

I guess, where you see Xenon, you might see other things, but one is unlikely to see the heavy metals here (although some traces of Plutonium have been detected).

We are indeed getting low levels of various isotopes [Cesium-137, Iodine-131, Xenon-133 and I have heard that low levels (over short or long time spans?) can be as bad as high levels (over short or long time spans).

    However:

Xenon-133 is a fission product of both 235U and 239Pu and is produced by neutron irradiation of fissionable material within nuclear reactors.

It has a half-life of 5.29 days. IT IS HEAVIER THAN AIR.
