Interview with TEPCO president Toshio Nishizawa, The Denki Shimbun, Jan. 11, 2012:

[...] What are your thoughts looking back on the last year?

“The accidents at the Fukushima I and II nuclear power stations have caused great inconvenience and anxiety to people in the Fukushima area and society as a whole. I again extend our sincere apologies. Since March 11 last year, we have been making frantic efforts to address our challenges while continuing to move forward and deliberate solutions. [...]

Did Nishizawa make a mistake? Rather unlikely, as he made a similar statement two months ago: Tepco President apologizes for accident at Fukushima DAINI nuclear plant... not just Daiichi

Daini was in the news earlier this week: Fukushima *DAINI* reactor has broken containment vessel, says Tokyo Professor -- Probably caused by quake, not tsunami

This is not the first time Daini has been mentioned.

I can see how people missed it, as Daini and Daiichi to me, look alike in the spelling.

      Hi StillJill

From what I understand, there are 6 reactors at Daiichi, and 4 reactors at Daini.

I really don’t know the exact count of radiation reactor monsters that are causing trouble.

One in trouble, is one to many for me.

They all spew, even when they are not in trouble.

Why do they call them plants, the don’t grow, they kill.

      ~END NUCLEAR PLANTS~

    Hello all
I’m new to registering at enenews but I’ve been following for 7 months on this site ,
it’s quite freaky how a nuclear disaster of such a scale can be forgotten , even though everyone on the planet with a television probably watched and knows about what happened in march last year.

Close friends , family mainly . I find it strange though how surprised people are when I speak to them about it. I’m researching fukushima for an extended A level project for collage and the response to questions is almost always ‘Wasn’t that over in march’ or what’s wrong with the tuna?’ People are in serious denial my guess is the reliance on mainstream media or that people simply feel that they are safe where they are. I’m in the UK which is probably as far from Japan as you get yet i’m still taking precautions

Explanation of how the accident happened , details on reactors the plant itself . But mainly on what was missed that we already knew before with nuclear disasters , accidentally or deliberately and what people do not realise or even know about how serious the situation is and will be for the rest of there lives.

              hi grope

maybe you could post it one discussion forum for the crew here to tweak! that might be fun? and offer you some extra research possibilities maybe?

in any event good luck with the essay! cc a copy to all the environment staff at the guardian.. two of them are a bit anti nuke though dont know which two! email admin at llrc and ask chris busby or one of his staff who might be the two friendly faces there.

they might be able to point you in the right direction maybe! at least the essay should get a bit of mileage in and stimulate a bit of grey matter for those that come across it!!

  • This is another example of the almost total media blackout regarding FUKU, both Daini and Daichi.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, pulling the strings.

Focus on the play show… where we show you what to believe, how to think and what to pay attention to…

Ask no questions of authority. Demand no answers. Listen ONLY to mass media news.

  • Daini had much the same things happen to it, if not EXACTLY the same as Daichi, for the exact same reasons.

The only difference in my mind, (until proven otherwise) is that Daini never got into the news, and Daichi did just a little bit, enough for people to know the name Fukushima.

As far as I am concerned, when the company and government admit once reactor melted through, that means at least four melted through.

When they say they had to release 3000 tons of radioactive water to the ocean from Daini, multiply that by a factor of ten to one hundred if not more.

Daini had to ‘vent’ steam and radiation, just like Fukushima.

Daini had loss of power, fires, and possibly explosions.. Since it was never in the news, we do not know if the place even exists anymore. It might be totally destroyed much like Daichi.

My bet is that that there are ten reactors or more in trouble, with at least melt downs, possibly melted through, with at least one reactor blown up and out, between Daini and Daichi.

Now we deal with the spent fuel pools. What is the total amount of spent fuel pools between the both of them, and how many are in trouble, melted down or blew up? We know based on photographs that at least one blew up Daichi #3, and at least one melted, possibly more.. Can we assume ten of those are in trouble as well?

Until proven otherwise we can count on 40 spent fuel pools and reactors in trouble right now, between Daichi and Daini…

How much total tonnage of out of control radioactive fuel between them, including spent fuel pools?

      Hi AGreenRoad

From the pictures and readings, Daiichi looks like all the reactors are toast to me.

DAINI, I have no clue how the 4 reators are, but it would not surprise me if you are right.

I think with Daiichi was enough to micro wav us all anyway.

20 reactors have had meltdowns? This is certainly news to me. Also considering the fact that their is only 10 reactors period in Fukushima. Reports can only confirm 3 have exploded. All reactors are daini have reported to reach cold shutdown by March 15, 3 days after the accident. With all major cooling functions rendered operable as of Jan 5.

I think they have damage, but nowhere near the situation of Daiichi. Rather, Know, considering they have several thousand tons of radioactive water.

Mind you, also at Daiichi, Reactor 4 was unloaded. Its core is in the SFP.

        Might help to read:
“Make that 20 total, spent fuel pools and reactors…” When you count both SFP and reactors, the number may be more if you count the Common Spent Fuel Pool at Fuku Daiichi. Does Fuku Daini have a Commont Spent Fuel Pool. And then there are Tokai NPP and Onagawa NPP.

        Report Comment

      • Should we listen to the official reports from the company? These same reports do not confirm ANY nuclear explosions or radiation releases due to them, and these same reports also deny that any melt throughs happened until very recently.

Most emphasis in these ‘official’ reports is on ‘cold shutdown’, not on explosions, radiation releases, high radiation levels, ongoing spikes in radiation, corium locations, or much reality at all.

Is this the source that we are to believe and trust?

Yes, they might be right, but after all of the coverups, false information, and misdirection, I hesitate to go where they take me.

Unemployment benefits won’t be extended to those who lost jobs due to March 11 disaster

    National Jan. 11, 2012

“Many victims lost their livelihoods in the coastal areas of Iwate, Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures, after the devastating tsunami struck the region on March 11 last year. Following the disaster, unemployment benefits in certain coastal areas and in the exclusion zone around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant were granted a special extension.

Last October, 1,307 residents in the region petitioned the government to extend the unemployment benefits because work was not available, but the labor ministry said this week said that it would not extend benefit payments, TV Asahi reported. It is thought that a further 2,700 recipients will lose their unemployment welfare payments from next month.

Last October, the ministry extended the first benefit period by 90 days for unemployed people in 55 municipalities in Fukushima, Iwate and Miyagi prefectures. At that time, Labor Minister Yoko Komiyama said that further extending unemployment aid would not motivate the jobless to look for work. She said the government would take steps to help unemployed people in the Tohoku area find new jobs. “

Fuku site #2 had cooling issues on 1,2,&4. But #3 had explosion and a fire in the turbine building at the Dani location.

    BUT!

as you will see during second half this link….
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEFt9p7-Dxo&feature=related

the OTHER plant on the WEST coast owned by Tepco DOES explain WHY they are finding the contamination they are right now.

That plant “Kariwa” had quake fractures in past ON SITE! Thinking it’s hosed now!

Best info says #’s 7, then #6 were restarted in 2009… #5 is no news… #1-4 it seems were too broken to pass restart tests.

    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=mcafee&va=Kashiwazaki-Kariwa+Nuclear+Power+Plant

images of site and past damage there…

Also, one must remember that rods can’t be just pulled-out of pools or core… transfer ALWAYS takes place with them emersed in coolant. They would heat and fracture the zirconium otherwise. The rods shown on cam being removed from #4 pool by the crane…? “THESE are of NON-STANDARD design!”
