What Fukushima’s Triple Meltdown Means, Time.com by Krista Mahr, May 24, 2011:
[... N]uclear fuel in a state of meltdown can, in the worst-case scenario, burn through its container and the plant infrastructure to leak into the ground around the facility. That, as Eben wrote here last week, is known as a ‘China Syndrome,’ and that’s what we want to avoid.
Fortunately, it appears for now we have dodged that bullet, and the not-great-but-not-apocalyptic news du jour is that the meltdowns at Nos. 2 and 3 are not as bad as what occurred at No. 1. [...]

The Rupture.
By Tacoma Groove
“As of today May 24th 2011, Elizabeth Flock wrote in the Wa Post. Tepco Suprise two more reactors melted down at fukushima.”
Not one but three nuclear reactors suffered nuclear meltdown…
Koichi Nakano a political science professor told reuters that” “The announcement was timed to minimalize the impact on the public. In the early stages of the crisis tepco may have wanted to avoid panic”.
This is an illegal premeditated witholding of information that should be taken with legal precidence and sure outrage. Your companies role is to inform citizens of the dangers that you have created. In a timely manner, to minimilize the exposure rate in the public, thereby reporting all immedieate dangers in a realtime manner, in the best of your ability. Instead; You put national monitary and economic structure above the regard of physical healths. While in the aftermath of a devistating tsunami in that regard. Your company has put the whole nation at risk, while ruining its credibility not only nationally but internationally; You have now admitted your role, in one of the biggest public health conspirisies, that humankind has witnessed. In which an unprecidented nuclear tragedy is putting risk to the entire planets eco systems. Rendering a questionally small 20km portion of the planet inaccessable to mankind. While infecting the food and water supplies internationaly across the entire globe…
A twitter tweet of mis information: “Radiation on the West coast is so diluted, its actually a cure for its self.”
I say: “Radiation is so dispursed it went everywhere across the planet; And now its accumulating everyday every hour every second.”
“How will you replace the ocean?; and the Soil, and the rivers, and the lakes?”
Another few article caught my attention at around this time. The first I will mention is Nuclear engineer found with +30,000cpm internal radiation… (wth); 1000 tepco employees, measured with internal radiation rates of +10,000cpm internal radiation or higher; 70,000 more evacuations are needed outside the 20km containment.
This is proof that the misinformation has lead to an undenyable scandal to Public health.[i] Where is the information and data. Shouldn’t we have those radiation dispersion maps and those thermal images of the reactors updated daily?Couldnt we track the meltdown that way? Don’t we plan on containing this crisis… uhm??? Yesterday?!?
“This is the kind of stuff conspiracies were made of”
Radiation from fukushima isn’t a banana. Its a collection of deadly nuclear isotope’s, that have the ability to kill instantlly, silently, or even slowly and stealthly. By subjecting the citizens to this type of exposure you have commmitted the crime of attempted murderer. Every agency involved in this situation, to that extent is an accessory to your crime. That goes for the iaea, nisa, nilu, tepco, and beyond. This is a conspiracy to the highest degree. As there is a huge misinformation campaign taking place right before your very eyes. You have no dignity or reputation anylonger. you are fraud, and corruption;. Criminally, morally, and ethically…
“This is beyond acceptable.”
The witholding and straying of numbers, and the lack of efficient research is starting to unfold a tragedy… Are we all internationally already in danger? why cant international services collect radiation dispursion data? what is worst case scenario???; How far away is it? Situation reports; Well could be taken hourly couldn’t they?:… Why are you taking away our dispersion models, are we in trouble?: Reversing the publication of epa figures to a monthly report?; telling scientists to withold information in a timely matter?:… Is there anything else down this road of lies?; when will we recieve complte disclosure to your time released data?;
I mean Afterall dropping the story off main stream media isn’t a really good sign btw… The people we trust not participating in a huge international effort to fix the crisis entirely. Is there a secret we don’t know? Because every nuclear scientist on the planet has not really explained the consequences of these figures… Am I right? What lies down the road? As it continues its downward spiral?
Wouldn’t it suck if we already passed that point… Are we going to get that information 2 months late too?
We have witnessed you raise the international health rates ten fold their previous limits, taken no interest in monitoring the radiation levels in our oceanic, fresh water, or food pyramid’s contamination… (missing oppurtunities to create jobs providing efficient monitoring globally). while at the same time limiting our resources on accurate information; and allowing this tragedy to displace as many people in the wake of the tsunami. Rendering portions of the planet inhabital is not a step on the grand ladder fo making progress…
Btw: Lieing to us, is not doing anything more than Creating fear and panic in international communities. There is good reason for that… Were all afraid… We want you to fix this today not in your 6 to 9 month road map which are riddled with error… I have a shovel my buddies got some quick spackle.. Do you need help?… You have made little progress in your attempt to divert this tragedy, and to that effect the situation has gotten much worse.
They call me the fear mongerer, <—
Yet deny the bigger picture of what is currently going on in the situation…
They lied to you. Are they still lieing.
I wrote earlier a piece, what lies down the road. Refrencing both the deciete of these companies and the movie "the road". Add that to your new verbal directory of titles like zardos, the china syndrome, and nuclear boy.
Id really like to know what lies down the road though… How much time it takes the world to screw in the lightbulb, fess up. work together, and save humanity. Cause the events are literally a slinky. The bottom stair is horrible, and there aint that much room left between here and there… This is the bp oilspill on heroin chilling in chernobyls backyard. While the whole planet is more and more contaminated every hour of everyday…
I watched the live cam between 1 and 3 am today… Reactors steaming away, could hardly see the reactors at all major pixilation… This means that every day there are atmospheric releases to current date, along with the ground water, and oceanic contamination. Its a nightmare…
We have no idea what the implications to date are, while the undisclosed projection of damage is growing everyday. The situation is now escalating in all factors, to a nightmare scenario. With little to no reports on how tepco is playing a role in adverting the tragedy. It seems that they are merely posponing it.,,
The witholding of key information is your excuse for not protecting your countries citizens from radioactive contamination… This was your effort to avoid a state of panic?
Its really disapointing to hear that…
All I hear is: "This information will scare the crap out of you"; "and so we would rather you all get potentially contaminated than fess up to that"…
Cheers,
Emmy.

And the downplaying continoues.
And if the metdown was consiled for 2 mon. what about the fallout readings, I am 100% certain that there are number somwhere, and done by sombody, I refuse to belive that they have done nothing, and for the sake of the people of Japan, all the readings from Tokyo, and the groundwater suply, when cracks in suagesystem, there must be leaking radiouactivity to the waterdepos.
The lack of a complet fallout and more precise messurements is still mindboggeling in its sheer absence.

Radiation effects in Japan to be studied by UN
The UN Scientific Committee on the effects of Atomic Radiation on Monday said that it would need at least two years to publish a full report on the impact of radiation on people and the environment from Japan’s ongoing nuclear crisis. The risk of seawater contamination was growing after a one- to two-week delay was announced in the construction of a decontamination facility to treat the hundreds of thousands of tons of radioactive water from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Further, their “decontaminated water” at La Hague causes leukemia in children. So, no it’s not safe either. They’re going to process it and dump it in the Pacific.

Just so easy to lie about nuclear accidents. You can lie about an oil spill but unsightly oil gets washed ashore. People see it. Radiation invisible. I’m sure you could have a nice beach day with girlfriend and six-pack on the Fukushima sea shore complete with fish b-b-q and be fine until one two years from now. Nuclear technology is complicated and radiation measured in unfamiliar terms to lay person. People will die of cancer and no definitive proof what caused it. Every man (and woman) for his/her-self!
I’m not well educated in nuclear but my gut reaction is this is not good. Any one out there can tell me what worse case scenario full uncontrolled meltdown means? Does the potential include the tons of nuclear waste and fuel rods at site vaporizing and polluting globe?

What a snow job. Have you ever heard the frog-in-hot-water story? If you drop a frog in boiling water it will jump right out, but if you put it in cold water and raise the temperature slowly it will boil to death.
The NRC, the IAEA, TEPCO and all of the nuclear industry are treating us like that frog. They knew EXACTLY what was going on, but they figured if they leaked it out a little at a time people would become accomodated, and not respond to the emergency.

I think they figure the best way to deliver very bad news is in stages, and after the fact.
It is also called desensitization, whereby you gradually expose a subject to increasing levels of a painful stimulus. Eventually the subject no longer reacts with any discomfort.
We also know that distress is lower for past events, as opposed to current or future events.
Someone has carefully planned out how to disseminate bad news.

It’s called “rolling disclosure.” Governments and industry utilize the communication strategy often. I’ve never seen it on a disaster scale this large, severe or encompassing. It has failed in my opinion and only served to further damage credibility. After 9-11, Iraq invasion, Katrina, BP spill… I feel the trust bank was tapped to capacity. Even Obama remarked on the public’s pessimism. Our pessimism is healthy and hard earned over decades of fabrication, erosion of good faith and bad choices against the public interest. Without prosecution, remediation and a track record of accountability – I don’t feel optimism and faith/trust will return. They’ll have to be removed from authority or earn it the slow, difficult way. The more they demand it Without deeds – the more outrage they breed.

Exactly, damage control campaigns work to keep people away from facts which reveal a fuller truth they may not like. If the unthinkable occurs, what OUR govts do will be vital in rebuilding trust again with them in the future. Strange times we are in.

Obama remarked on the public’s pessimism? Is that after he decided to ruin the nation’s economy by keeping us in unnecessary wars that he vowed to get us out of, or was that after deciding to ruin the US economy by giving away huge amounts of taxpayer money to the Goldman Sachs and other enormous multinational corporations?

Steam explosion experiments using partially oxidized corium
J. H. Kim
The Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, vol. 22, no. 11, pp.2245-2253, 2008
Abstract : Two steam explosion experiments were performed in the TROI (Test for Real cOrium Interaction with water) facility by using partially oxidized molten corium (core material), which is produced during a postulated core melt accident in a nuclear reactor. A triggered steam explosion occurred in one case, but none occurred in the other case. The dynamic pressure and the dynamic load measured in the former experiment show a stronger explosion than those performed previously with oxidic corium. Meanwhile, a steam explosion is prohibited when the melt temperature is low, because the melt is easily solidified to prevent a liquid-liquid interaction. The partially oxidized corium could enhance the strength of a steam explosion due to the thermal energy from an exothermic chemical reaction between the water and the uranium metal with a sufficient superheat extracted during melting. The melt composition effect on a steam explosion load, which was not included during the nuclear design, needs to be included in it.
Keyword : Steam explosion; TROI; Partially oxidized corium; Core melt accident; Nuclear reactor

Just to point out that cooling corium down appears to be a tricky area, or still under active research:

I’d buy you solar panels with your taxes. I’d restructure the NRC so they’d be an actual regulatory body. I’d remove the Mox plutonium from 40 year old reactors on fault lines near population centers. I’d nationalize existing nuclear and rely on it as a temporary transition bridge to a new energy strategy. I wouldn’t lie to you about risk. There is a simple explanation. A given amount of fuel will give off a given amount of energy within its life time. You cannot prevent it. This is not a fire you can put out. The variables are how fast and how long and flux per unit area. If the fuel is allowed to go critical, that is to have a chain reaction, its life time will be shorter but its intensity higher. The total energy will be the same. All of the analysis above does not touch on the fact that if they are able to contain the fuel they will still have to cope with the energy until it is expended. If it goes slowly we are talking millions of years. A half life is half power not no power. That is the problem with fuel rods they are with us forever. We cannot maintain our roads but we expect to keep resolidified fuel safe forever. And who exactly is going to pay for this totally non productive activity? Each of those reactors has fuel capable of producing 3Gigajoules of energy per second, that is watts if your more familier with that term. That energy has to be released some how otherwise the temperature will continue to rise. This is nuclear fuel, just as with an electrical fire there is no upper limit to temperature. The temperature will rise to how ever high it needs to go to dissipate the energy. If it has to turn to plasma to do it it will. Basic physics is not hard to understand only the people who try to make sure you do not.

WANTED: Information on avoidance tactics employed by major corporations to prevent contamination of metal equipment used within certain distances from Fukushima.
For example:
– Marine shipping companies requiring that metal containers used to deliver goods north of Tokyo be purchased by the customer so that the irradiated containers are not returned to the ship (already happening and reported).
– Airlines altering arrival and departure routes so as to avoid passage over and nearby Fukushima, and through downwind areas, which might contaminate the aircraft.
– Maritime shipping, military ships and submarines and cruise companies altering passage routes offshore Fukushima to avoid contamination (the ‘Eisenhower’ maneuver ?).
– Auto leasing companies restricting rental cars and trucks from being taken closer than certain distances from Fukushima.
– Used auto sales and export companies restricting purchases of vehicles originating within certains distances from Fukushima.
– Train and truck companies restricting the return of metal containers used to deliver liquids and solids north of Tokyo.
– Bank, retail and other businesses starting to avoid collecting metal coinage originating near Fukushima ?
Yes, the companies are being told to publicly deny that they are quarantining Fukushima, but I wonder what they are doing in reality, and if the quarantine is expanding ?
Used to be that ‘diamonds (and herpes) are forever’. Now it’s being modified to: diamonds, herpes and irradiated metal objects are forever’.
Wonder how the locals are responding to the danger?

Is anyone watching the live feed? It doesn’t look good, what you can see through the smoke.
