TV: Fukushima Radiation Alert — Concern ‘nuclear chain reaction’ could occur at plant — Reactors are still melting down and spewing radioactivity — Fuel has burned through containment — Expert: It’s unprecedented… could’ve been 12 Chernobyls (VIDEO)

Published: April 24th, 2017 at 10:34 am ET

TRT World transcript excerpts (government-funded public broadcaster of Turkey), Apr 14, 2017:

Martin Stanford, host of ‘Insight’ (emphasis added): Radiation Alert — a nuclear scientist tells us the cleanup at Japan’s Fukushima plant could take 100 years… The decommissioning process has barely begun… A British nuclear scientist who’s just come back from Fukushima has told this program it could take up to 100 years.

1:15 in – Dana Lewis, senior correspondent: In three years Tokyo will host the Summer Olympics, and ironically one of the commercial slogans asks ‘Is Japan cool?’ It would almost be funny if the situation wasn’t so serious. 150 miles from Tokyo is the Fukushima nuclear power station where the situation is not cool — it’s a super-heated atomic catastrophe ever since a powerful earthquake rattled Japan in 2011 a 15-metre tsunami engulfed Fukushima and caused three reactors to melt down and they still are.

1:45 in – Kevin Kamps, Beyond Nuclear: It’s unknown where those cores are at… There is some possibility that it’s burrowed completely through the containment, and is sitting in groundwater.

2:30 in – Lewis: Deep inside Fukushima there is a molten mess… But exactly how deep are those cores? And that is a burning question. These close-up photographs show that it has burned through some of the containment structure and burrowed deep in the foundation of the reactor. Until those cores can be retrieved, the radiation will keep spewing into groundwater and leaking — no one knows for sure where… Neil Hyatt is a professor of nuclear materials chemistry. [He’s] back from touring Fukushima — well at least the storage areas… and he admits the situation will haunt Japan for generations.

3:45 in – Neil Hyatt, nuclear scientist: Somewhere between 40 and 100 years for the Fukushima cleanup and complete decommissioning is probably a reasonable estimate…

4:00 in – Lewis: But while they plan to get to those cores Tokyo Electric is struggling with a lethal radioactive dragon

4:45 in – Hyatt: One concern is that there could be a resumption of the nuclear chain reaction

7:00 in – Mark Whitby, engineer: This was an unprecedented accident, it was very close to being much worse than Chernobyl… It wasn’t so much the reactor cores which were melting – there was nothing they could do to to retrieve that situation. The real problem was that one of the reactors had been recently taken offline, it had a fuel pond which was very hot, stacked with 20 years worth of fuel rods and that was beginning to boil dry… Had that fuel pond boiled, and Prime Minister Kan was very aware of this, this would have been 12 Chernobyls

Fukushima Daiichi Equals 50 Plus Chernobyls

“…Simple division tells us there are at least 48.6 Chernobyls in the burning old reactor cores pumping fiery isotopes into the Earth’s atmosphere. It is no stretch to say Fukushima Daiichi’s six reactors and the dry holding pools for old reactor cores are equal to more than 50 Chernobyl disasters….”

Our species fully intends to extinguish itself.

No species has the “right” to do that. What is unfolding is not natural, it is not “geological” or even “inevitable”, it is deliberate, designed and determined by the hand of man. We did this. To ourselves and to every other living thing on the planet. We are entirely responsible for what is unfolding. And we are simply unwilling (not unable –unwilling) to do anything about

    The world governments
are not that interested. The global population is not that interested. It is already quite clear that our species fully intends to extinguish itself and every other living entity on the planet.

At what point then – does self-preservation take over?

I’ve watched tons of documentaries of global destruction occurring and why it happens. The conditions that have caused this are all economic. Our economic system requires our participation in destruction and escalating consumption. It is the root cause.

Unless this system is abandoned, we will perish.

The slowly responding Earth systems are now reacting very negatively towards planetary life survival. And we cannot reverse this. Especially so since we cannot abandon our economic demands, which are a heat-engine and a resource destruction monster.

We are all going to die under this system, which will have ultimately killed us all..

    • “Along with the possibility of the extinction of mankind by nuclear war, the central problem of our age has therefore become the contamination of man’s total environment with such substances of incredible potential for harm- substances that accumulate in the tissues of plants and animals and even penetrate the germ cells to shatter or alter the very materials of heredity upon which the shape of the future depends…”

“All this has been risked — for what? Future historians may well be amazed by our distorted sense of proportion…”

“Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?"

Indeed the powers that be are so upset that their precious new world order bullshit has been delayed by the election of Trump and Brexit, that they immediately started the war drums.

They are totally fine with putting the world at risk of nuclear war. If they can't have their global domination, they are willing to destroy the world and themselves.

These are sick effing sociopaths, psychopaths, and just greedy bastards at the "top". It is amazing the groups of people with say, just 6 months to live with fuel flee brain cancer don't decide to take out some of these bastards. It is amazing that "they walk among us". Did i say Aloha?

"You, where-ever you are now, are living through the first stages of a disaster in which there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no safe place on Earth for you to go to avoid it. The disaster you are now living through is a greenhouse emergency and with each ounce of CO2, methane and other greenhouse gasses you, I, or the rest of us, pump into the air, that emergency grows in the vast potential of damage and harm that it will inflict over the coming years, decades and centuries". Robert Scribbler

Michael Mann wrote an excellent piece describing the immediacy of our current emergency in the Scientific American.

He is a kind of modern Galileo of climate science in that he has born the brunt of some of the most severe and asinine attacks for simply telling the truth and for revealing the nature of our world as it stands.

The statement that Chernobyl was/is worse than Fukushima is ridiculous.

This comparison cannot be considered for at least the next 100 years. Making the statement, IMO, is a diversion of the fact that Fukushima's ongoing devastation is out of control with no real plan. The catastrophic potential is teetering on the edge of annihilation every minute of every day.

The odds that Fukushima will be the last exploded/melting Nuclear Plant over the next 100 years is dismal to slim. Debating which is worse will be meaningless.

"Gut Flora" Now Going Mainstream As It Should — Huff Post
I don't often read Huff Post. I used to, and used to participate in numerous discussions. Of course Huff Post is as slanted far left as you can get, that is not me. So I tried to have discussion, and understand positions. It was pretty useless, maybe only 1 person of 100 would even consider facts that I brought to the table.

But in researching the "Russia Did It" meme I ran across some interesting stuff at Huff.

It's title leans heavy on the "New Years Resolution Diet" and the idea that you may fail…not because it's your fault….but because you just have the wrong bacteria in your gut.

Dana Durnford's new video berating the New York Times for a story they printed. The story said that Fukushima children are now returning to Naraha, Japan. The NYT article did not even mention radiation.

That's just 12 miles from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear power plant.

Pieces of fuel rods rained down on Naraha during the reactor explosions.

"“Our children told us never to come back to this place,” says Kohei, one of a small number of residents who returned to Naraha last month after it became the first contaminated community in Fukushima prefecture to be declared fit for human habitation."

    Incredible contamination in Namie, Fukushima

“Fukuichi area environmental radiation monitoring project” has published airborne radiation measurements map and soil surface density map. The results are simply incredible. This is far much worse than in Radiation Control Zone. Any area becomes designated as such when the total effective dose due to external radiation and that due to radioactive substances in the air is likely to exceed 1.3mSv per quarter – over a period of three months, or when the surface density is over 40,000Bq/m2. In the Radiation Control Zone, it is prohibited to drink, eat or stay overnight. Even adults are not allowed to stay more than 10 hours. To leave the zone, one has to go through a strict screening.

Namie’s radio contamination is far over these figures! And people are told to go back to these areas.

Here is the soil contamination map uploaded on April 15th. They even had to introduce 7 scales, for the contamination is so high and they couldn’t deal with the scales they were using before! It is a violation of human rights to let people live in such areas.

Months of antibiotics for chronic bronchitis must have me brain dead…because I don't understand this quote from today's story and don't have the energy to listen to the tape.

Is this saying that WITHOUT the 3/11 quake and tsunami, disaster was imminent ANYWAY? What are the implications, if so? How would it have played out if there was no "Divine" intervention? Would that make the 3/11 disaster a coincidence? Or not a coincidence? I'm probably not thinking straight. If not, please cut me slack. If so, please consider the implications and theories that have already been advanced, but were minus this "motive."

Unit 4's fuel pool besides having been overloaded by adding the entire reactor core to the pool while work was being done to replace the core shroud, the pool also contained bent and damaged fuel rods that were thought to be better left undisturbed and remained in the pool all those years.

Boiling off is a step up from steaming away which I don't think either happened. Anyway, after awhile Unit 4's pool was reinforced from underneath. They went to get lengths to stabilize it being loaded beyond normal capacity until they could remove the fuel.

Other than being overloaded, Unit 4's pool is not unique. All reactor sites, everywhere in the world have the same problem of not having permanent sites for spent fuel. Even spent fuel moved to air cooled storage casks, remains onsite. Spent fuel with no designated final resting place, stays and remains onsite for now.

The dangers of losing a spent fuel pool is far worse than a meltdown but they never talk about that. Spent fuel burning and releasing its poisons creates more deadly radioactive fallout than a meltdown produces. Spent fuel storage is a dirty bomb waiting to happen.

I don't know if smothering a runaway spent fuel fire in sand and concrete would be an answer to the problem.

The wind was blowing onshore when Unit 1 blew up. Can you image if a spent pool fire raged and the plume was landlocked like most would be in the US? Japan and the US was well aware of the dangers of losing 4's pool.
