In other words, RUN!
They are saying no immediate threat but they don't know what is going on. We knew "they" were clueless, why trust them that there is no immediate threat?

No immediate Risks = Within Limits
… It's all just relative.
When they (DOE) have to, just HAVE TO reassure adamantly so…
… Question it!

Over 50 tanks leaking…
Nothing new to see here, move on.
Leaks started back in the 60's and have only gotten worse since then.

I tried responding in the Comments of that YouTube vid but it didn't seem to work. Anyone else tried doing so? That doctor's concern about the tanks leaking at Hanford were dead on. Vote this woman for president. Seriously.

what is an "immediate" threat? when does "immediate" turn into long term?
my suspicion is that it turns into long term threat when so much time is passed that is it easy to determine one or more different causes of the long term effects of exposure instead of the exposure itself.

te clean up is not going too well i guess.

I am trying to figure out why these leaks are big news since leaks have happened here before. It was my understanding that leaks were ongoing to some degree and larger leaks possible at any time hence the move to solidify the liquid waste in an effort to contain it. In the ENENews article before this one a commentator posted a link to a 2006 Oregon Dept. of Energy report of the risks from Hanford: http://www.oregon.gov/energy/NUCSAF/docs/WhitePaperRev.pdf
In it there are two statements that make it sound like those in charge of the site believed there were no leaks at this current time,
“No new leaks have been identified since 1993.” & “Each of the four tank safety issues have since been resolved and the Watch List was closed in August 2001.”
However, the report also says “As long as waste remains in the tanks, leaks to the ground will continue to occur.” Which is what I thought to begin with so again why are the current leaks getting so much press this time when they probably have been ongoing and never really stopped to some degree? My concern is that the leaks this time may be more significant in quantity and/or location that it is causing alarm even among those that normally would try to play down this event.

So if my basement faucet has been dripping for some time and my spouse runs upstairs one day and says “come quick the faucet is leaking” I would assume something had significantly changed. Maybe the pipe burst or the drain clogged and the water built up and overflowed the sink. So what has changed at Hanford?

No immediate threat is just misleading. You can smoke a cigarrette, have unprotected sex with a hooker , shoot smack and not wear a seatbelt and there is no immediate threat. Hanford was built 70 odd years ago and infrastructure has deteriorated and there is no money to fix it as US citizens have let their government waste money on war adventures and other things. Plus nuclears dirty little secret that the cost of cleanup far outweighs any benefits created. Nuclear anything is a boondoggle. Many cancer deaths anyways and an official shrug of the shoulders as to why. Whatever level of radiation is leaking and who may in the future get sick is all good as nobodies going to jail over it. Just "no immediate risk" for the sheeple. That's all, folks!

Great point! they are adamant about protecting us from all of those things, and even too much sugar. But they are silent while all of these low level doses of radiation fall on us from the sky, are fed to us in our food and leak into the environment. Do they deny that all of these doses, while below a "immediate danger" level, are cumulative and they are charged with the duty of protecting us? Did they forget their collective oaths of office? They didn't swear to protect anyone's reputation or elect-ability. They swore to uphold the law, serve the american people and defend the CONSTITUTION! We have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These nuclear accidents and the resulting contamination are infringing on those inalienable rights.

Not to mention the laws already on the books that make it a felony for any public official to intentionally lie or withhold information related to anything nuclear that holds the potential to cause harm!(?)~If existing laws were fully enforced to the letter I would think their would be impeachment proceedings and prosecutions as a result?!! They "veil their crimes" & remained above the law by claiming "matter of national security" & get away with mass murder!! When the delayed reactions happening inside our bodies causes the corpses & questions to become overwhelming enough to demand REAL answers to undeniable problems will they say "well we said no IMMEDIATE health concerns, but we never said it wouldn't kill you in 5 months or 5 years from the first massive internal exposure"!(?)!! It seems that their pathological lies & the hopelessly MASSIVE contamination's & the cost if not their ability to clean up their messes & dispose of the waste materials already leaking at hundreds, perhaps even thousands of sites, landfills, bodies of water, etc. used as dumping grounds have gotten so far away from any chance of redeeming the radioactive wastelands they created & thus "themselves"!(?)-so why not just keep up the "facade" they've stubbornly clung to along with the money & power & their own selfish lifestyle & ways so TPTB can maintain their grip of control over us while enjoying wealth & control at OUR expense until the very END!(??)~(which seems "just around the…

cont'd~ "corner"!!?)~
Most of us TRY to hold onto some level of "hope" or "guarded optimism"-but I have suspicions that the handful of haughty,arrogant,govt./military science advocates,or "nuclear pimps" as I've heard used & seems fitting in this case too,-have known that their "pet" so-called "technology" has been out of their control since the beginning & probably sealed humanity & planet Earth's fate even as the inventors of the most toxic of harmful, uncontrollable materials had second thoughts & warned TPTB against deployment ahead of developing the technology & innovations capable of controlling it and/or processes to render the unavoidable and deadly radioactive byproducts harmless or even capable of being stored "safely" or properly!! No,they won't give up their BS "cash cow" or their "elite" status & admit their foul misdeeds if just so they can enjoy the material wealth and "control" as the last generation of nuke-puke a-holes able to exist "above the law"(for now)-EVEN IF IT KILLS THEM TOO!! I got distracted but in closing would suggest that I suspect that anyone with half a brain can see how badly things will end for us and the life forms unlucky enough to have evolved alongside us before we killed them too!!(?) I mentioned "hope",but I can sense that time has never been on our side from the second that began the Atomic Age & 7 decades of the foolish endeavor we've reached the end of our rope!(If TPTB stand behind you,DON'T drop…

No immediate threat means that no one is going to die instantly from this. What they aren't saying is the LONG TERM threat is going to kill thousands in the area and damage the ecosystem for thousands of years.

What is going on at Hanford?
Let's start with some basic history.
Hanford’s History
"Hanford was built in haste and secrecy to create nuclear weapons. Though bomb production is gone, the mindset lingers. There has been a serious lack of research to determine the extent of the threat posed by Hanford’s radioactive and toxic legacy."
http://www.hanfordchallenge.org/hanfords-history/
Accidents at Hanford are listed..under military nuclear accidents.
List of military nuclear accidents
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_nuclear_accidents
And is reported as 'America's Nuclear Bomb'
Hanford Plant in Northwest reported as 'America’s nuclear bomb'

And why not..the US made it.

Well..you cant get the info..its all stored in the archives..and you need access. What a great way to HIDE all the illnesses..which my family has suffered from for years..a daughter died from birth defects, daughter with cancer, NO children possible for some, facial defects in grandbabies, reversed heart in one grandchild..and lots of autoimmune disease. The "no immediate danger"..sure..just for the rest of your life..You are lucky to find treatment..and forget pain relief for joint disease..organ damage.
Report Comment
Someone needs to make the US government cover the medical costs for DOWNWINDERS. If you have a disease caused due to toxic materials/radiation..you get medical care without question. Its the ignoring the facts, making the victims hire legal support..and the LARGE medical payouts..which make the situation even worse. Now some cancers can be fingerprinted and IDed as to caused by radiation exposure..it makes it possible to have DOE/EPA responsible. Wonder if the powers that be realize the electronic records will allow victims to see their health reports and put two and two together?

Quote from CBS News ***** """Hanford's tanks hold some 53 million gallons of highly radioactive waste — enough to fill dozens of Olympic-size swimming pools — and many of those tanks are known to have leaked in the past. An estimated 1 million gallons of radioactive liquid has already leaked there"""
That is over 3 acre feet of leakage… Imagine a football field's turf area = 3 acres WOW!!!!.. Covered a foot deep in highly radioactive soup… That is what has leaked already from these tanks… And the place has been leaking for years and years in other parts of the facility…
Savanna is the same… Places like in in Russia and probably China too
