SWR (German public television broadcaster), 2013 (emphasis added):

  • 25:00 in — The dumping of nuclear waste in the sea was banned worldwide in 1993, yet the nuclear industry has come up with other ways. They no longer dump the barrels at sea; they build kilometers of underwater pipes through which the radioactive effluent now flows freely into the sea. One of these pipes is situated in Normandy [near] the French reprocessing plant in La Hague… The advantage for the nuclear industry? No more bad press… disposal via waste pipes remains hidden from the public eye, quite literally.
  • 28:30 in — 400 km from La Hague [as well as] Holland [and] Germany… we find iodine… 5-fold higher tritium value than [reported] by the operator Areva. It’s now obvious why citizens take their own measurements.
  • 30:15 in — Molecular Biologist: “The radioactive toxins accumulate in the food chain. This little worm can contain 2,000-3,000 times more radioactivity than its environment. It is then eaten by the next biggest creature and so on, at the end of the food chain we discovered damage to the reproductive cells of crabs… These genetic defects are inherited from one generation to the next… Cells in humans and animals are the same.”
  • 32:00 in — The 2nd disposal pipe for Europe’s nuclear waste is located in the north of England… Radioactive pollution comes in from the sea. Their houses are full of plutonium dust… The pipe from Sellafield is clearly visible only from the air… nuclear waste is still being dumped into the sea. Operators argue this is land-based disposal… It has been approved by the authorities.
  • 35:45 in — Plutonium can be found here on a daily basis, the toxic waste returns from the sea… it leaches out, it dries, and is left lying on the beach. The people here have long since guessed that the danger is greater than those responsible care to admit… Every day a small excavator removes plutonium from the beach… In recent decades the operator at Sellafield has tossed more than 500 kg of plutonium into the sea.
  • 42:00 in — We take a soil sample… The result turns out to be alarming. The amount of plutonium is up to 10 times higher than the permissible limit.

Yahoo News, Dec 5, 2014: All this radiation from the [Fukushima] disaster has definitely not been isolated to just Japan. Researchers monitoring the Pacific Ocean, in which much of the radiation spilled into, have detected radioactive isotopes this past November just 160 km [100 miles] off the coast of California. So this story will continue to unfold for many years to come.

I had always been taught people are good, and that at their core was a person eager to help his neighbor and aid in the survival of mankind.

But many here have caused me to revisit my former belief system and consider the possibility that I and my teachers were mistaken. Could it be that the desire for power and lust for violence and money has replaced the virtues of yesterday?

A separation between right and wrong, truth and lie, and good and bad, must be discernible and less obscure for humanity to act decisively. We must somehow reverse our foolishness before nature hurls us back into the cave.

Christianity is the most evil murdering cult I have ever had the misfortune to ever be involved with. They are the synagogue of Satan, worshipping Satan posing as GOD.
If Yahuahshua (genuine Christ, they murdered in life and memory) would to stand before them they would murder him and make a stained glass window of him, worshipping the dead.

I renounce Christianity with it's imposter messiah Jesus the son of perdition, and its criminal theft of the real estate of earth, a whore house devils paradise on every corner.

Christendom Jezebel you are officially divorced from YAHUAH . He will no longer be present in ANY whore house on every corner. You were warned never to rebuild GODS house, he lives in HIS CHOSEN people, not a knocking shop for devils and demons.

      • kwainedoba

First of all, Jesus never ONCE EVER said he was a Christian. That came much later. Some have accused Christians of hijacking Jesus but however you perceive Jesus you will find that 1. A vast majority of his life is missing from the "Christian Bible" and 2. He never said anything about forming a religion called Christianity. Second, for those who are not Christian but do believe in God, God is LOVE. God did not start this, cause this, perpetuate this and is not capable of evil. Renouncing God and Jesus just because you are pissed off will not make you a better person, you will still just be bitter.

The Japanese gov..says that Japan was pressured by the US..
by nothing more than implying they could are part of the diggy-doggy secret sharing of the US and allies…

"During the past year, Japanese Government spokespersons asserted that U.S. government officials clearly warned Japan that they would not be able to share classified information until new secrecy laws were enacted.

"[V]arious countries around the world have explicit rules regarding…state secrets. For that reason Japan would be unable to receive information from such countries unless it establishes rules for managing such kinds of secret information," Prime Minister Abe said at a press conference on December 9, 2013.

But there is no evidence that the United States is behind the new law. There have been no public statements from American government officials. There's no evidence that the United States ever intended to limit its sharing of information with Japan unless the law was passed. As strong allies, it is true that the United States has a clear and vested interest in Japan's secrecy polices–U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy has supported the evolution of Japan's Security policies and the U.S. State Department has encouraged the importance of information security and strengthened policies. These statements, however, do not validate the Japanese claim that the U.S. government would no longer information unless a new, more repressive, secrecy law was enacted."

European utilities defend use of boric acid
    09 December 2014

The association of European electricity generators, Eurelectric, has expressed its concern that the use of boric acid – used across the whole nuclear fuel cycle – could be restricted under proposals from the European Chemical Agency (ECHA).

In early September, ECHA published a list of 22 substances, including boric acid, that it recommends adding to the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) authorization list. REACH is the system for controlling chemicals in Europe.

ECHA said it proposed the addition of boric acid to the list because of its potential risk to fertility.

ECHA launched a public consultation, ending 1 December, calling for comments on the recommendation. In parallel, the European Commission has asked for information on the possible socio-economic consequences of the inclusion of boric acid in the authorization list.

"Given the fact that boric acid has no substitute, the rolling application process is particularly costly and contributes to undermining the regulatory uncertainty needed for investments in nuclear power plants."

Eurelectric noted, "Boric acid, whether natural or enriched, is used across the whole nuclear fuel cycle." It said it is "vital to control nuclear fission reactions in nuclear electric power plants and to ensure nuclear…

safety." Boric acid is used in all pressurized water reactors (and to a lesser extent in boiling water reactor). Eurelectric noted, "No other chemical compound has the same characteristics required to replace boric acid for this use as expected in the authorization process."

Boric acid is also used for its neutron absorbing capacities within the nuclear fuel cycle and during decommissioning. Additionally, it is used in the glass of vitrified radioactive waste…

The association suggests that a "risk management option" study is carried out for boric acid, and borates in general, before any inclusion in the authorization list is considered. This, it says, will "ensure that the most appropriate regulation to manage risk is chosen, based on a complete and up-to-date analysis." …

    – This is a superb piece. It ends:

… In short, information management to prevent ‘anxiety’, which is an emotional state that can lead to calls for accountability and challenges to entrenched systems of power, has taken precedence over open and honest investigation that might threaten vested interests.

It is highly unlikely that authorities will be forthcoming about the extent and nature of the health effects caused by radiation because unfavourable findings would undermine the state’s nuclear energy policy, a policy that stubbornly persists even in the wake of the continuing forced evacuation of around 160,000 people and the continued inability to bring Daiichi under control; the destruction of individual livelihoods and whole communities; the contamination of air, water, soil, sea, crops, marine life, cattle and wildlife, all of these especially devastating in an agricultural area dependent on farms and fisheries; deaths during evacuation, and from suicide after evacuation; possible deaths due to the prevention of rescue teams from entering the exclusion zone to find and treat people trapped in rubble after the earthquake and tsunami; and health and family problems due to stress and inactivity amongst evacuees …

    • rogerthat

amongst evacuees (not just from the power plant), such as obesity among children, child abuse, deaths in isolation, and domestic violence. As if that were not enough, hundreds of thousands of children are now undergoing the trauma of ongoing screenings, with tens of the unluckiest ones facing surgery, elevated health risks and lifetime medicine dependency.

I should, however, end by noting that while thyroid cancer has received the most attention, probably because it is the only post-Chernobyl disease recognized by the main international bodies (who in turn probably focus on it in part because it is relatively nonfatal), there are many local accounts of other apparently Chernobyl-related health issues in children in Belarus and the Ukraine, including leukemia, heart disease, lowered immunity, lowered birth rates, increased mortality rates, strokes, high blood pressure, and chronic fatigue.

Whether these problems will materialize, or have already materialized, in Japan is an open question beyond the scope of this article, but one should be on one’s guard against those who hide any such developments under a politically motivated veil of ‘statistical significance’ to support a hubristic discourse of absolute denial.

Senate report on CIA program details brutality, dishonesty
    Comments 5000+

The Washington Post's Greg Miller lists the important takeaways from the CIA interrogation report and explains why it is being released now. (The Washington Post)

By Greg Miller, Adam Goldman and Julie Tate December 9 at 1:35 PM

An exhaustive five-year Senate investigation of the CIA’s secret interrogations of terrorism suspects renders a strikingly bleak verdict on a program launched in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, describing levels of brutality, dishonesty and seemingly arbitrary violence that at times brought even agency employees to moments of anguish.

The report by the Senate Intelligence Committee delivers new allegations of cruelty in a program whose severe tactics have been abundantly documented, revealing that agency medical personnel voiced alarm that waterboarding methods had deteriorated to “a series of near drownings” and that agency employees subjected detainees to “rectal rehydration” and other painful procedures that were never approved.

When Terrance Peterson reported wrongdoing to the Department of Veterans Affairs inspector general … the IG turned his charges over to the agency “so they could investigate themselves.”

Unsurprisingly, the department found that it did nothing wrong, dropped the case, and retaliated against Peterson.

According to the article, this is a typical pattern, with federal agencies regularly utilizing the IGs to silence whistleblowers…

Key Quote (Washington Examiner): A recent twist is that agencies are now using IGs to retaliate against whistleblowers or silence them by threatening criminal investigations rather than just personnel actions, said Tom Devine, legal director for the nonpartisan Government Accountability Project.

Criminal investigations conducted by the IGs mean agencies do not have to contend with complex personnel rules or whistleblower protection laws, Devine said.

Trumped-up charges can be anything from accusing the whistleblower of making threats to disclosing classified information, Devine said. The effect is intimidation.

“The IGs are the hatchet men for that phenomenon,” Devine said. “It’s cheap. It’s easy. You can’t lose and the chilling effect is far greater than firing someone. You may scare other employees by firing a whistleblower. You terrorize them by prosecuting a whistleblower. And the IGs have been the natural vehicles…

    Dec 10

Russia scaled back opposition to European proposals to improve the safety of nuclear power, leaving the U.S. as the main dissenter to new rules intended to avoid a repeat of Japan’s 2011 meltdown in Fukushima.

Russia changed its stance at a Dec. 4 meeting of nuclear diplomats, setting out the Moscow government’s view of new rules to limit radioactive contamination in the event of a nuclear accident, according to a copy of the 13-page presentation seen by Bloomberg.

The move raised the chances of a deal to strengthen the Convention on Nuclear Safety, according to three Western diplomats present at the meeting, who asked not to be identified because the talks were private.

The European Union is trying to find a path to tighter safety rules for the world’s aging nuclear reactors with its relationship with Russia overshadowed by the conflict in Ukraine.

Yet it’s the U.S., the world’s biggest nuclear-power generator, that is proving the biggest obstacle, the diplomats said, as company investments in reactor safety lag those of European peers…
