Flammable gas detected in Fukushima pipe: TEPCO, AFP, September 24, 2011:

[...] Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) was unable to identify the gas but nonetheless said it was unlikely there would be an explosion in the reactor.

The company has been injecting nitrogen into the reactor so that the level of oxygen inside becomes low enough to prevent blasts.

But a TEPCO spokesman said workers at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant measured a 100-percent flammable gas in a pipe connected to the power station’s reactor number one.

“It is not clear exactly where and how this gas was created,” the spokesman told AFP. “We are considering ways to deal with it. [...]

It really is a “no-brainer” when you blast your cells with high energy particles (ionizing radiation) that your cells will become damaged. What part of “duh” does it take to figure that out.

The Nuke-Pimps can always find and point to something that “proves” that radiation is not just non-harmful it is actually beneficial. The human being is capable of perpetrating many lies within their own mind, rationalizations to support a necessary view. In many cases this necesasry view may be….I have to support my family, I get peer respect from being a nuclear scientist, and I don’t want to think of myself as a bad person, plus….I am almost like God, turning matter into energy.

Motive and opportunity are there, now all we need is the weapon to prove the case of crimes against humanity. Plenty of studies show that radiation causes cancers, and there are other bad effects just due to the elements involved being directly poisonous to humans, such as the negative health effect of uranium as a chemical are far worse than the radiation effects that uranium causes.

The Iowa Radon Lung Cancer Study had several strengths. First, independent pathologic review was performed for 96 percent of the cases. Second, the study was carried out in Iowa, which has the highest mean radon concentrations in the United States. Third, the high radon concentrations in conjunction with a strict quality assurance protocol contributed to accurate and precise radon measurements…

Oppenheimer was closer to the truth when he quoted Hindu scripture: “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

Tepco, the Japanese government, and General Electric have destroyed many people’s worlds by their hubris, greed, negligence, and incompetence. So did those responsible for Chernobyl, and so did those who detonated thousands of atom bombs across the northern hemisphere in the 1950s and 60s.

What are the possibilities? Hydrogen, Krypton, Xenon

    Flammable gas = hydrogen

The others are Noble gases and are stable.

Confirmatory test; Obtain a sample and put some in a balloon to see if it floats.
    Presto answer Hydrogen.

      • Agree Sickputer. I will answer one question only before I take my afternoon swim.
“Specifically, how is the nuclear industry not to be trusted?”

We now know that TEPCO and others knew core was in full melt down March 12, 2011 but said nothing till June. But never mind all that.
I will answer that question in terms of the original article this thread is discussing. When TEPCO a representative of nuclear industry states that they have found an unidentifiable gas within a plant suffering from multiple melt-downs, it is clear that TEPCO doesn’t understand everything that is going on. If they don’t understand what the gas is or how it is being formed then how can they reassure us that no explosion can happen?

Therefore I don’t trust TEPCO to resolve this situation as it is clear they don’t know whats going on themselves.

Irritated Kalifornian, if you trust the nuclear industry get a job in that industry and buy a house next to the oldest nuclear plant in California. Maybe you have already. Save some money for the pain-killers you will need later on in life.

I do not trust the international nuclear industry, including the Chinese, American, Canadian, French and Japanese nuclear industry. A helluva way to boil water. Look up Boondoggle in any decent dictionary and you will have my opinion of the nuclear industry. However if I ever found myself close to a nuclear power station and was told to evacuate by the NRC of course I would evacuate but that won’t happen cause I don’t trust them when they tell me its safe. I had a Martha Stewart moment: I made hydrogen from scratch with two batteries, two paper clips, and a cup of salt water.

Making hydrogen gas is actually very easy. I first did it when I was probably 15, and it’s really hard to fail. Connect two wires to a 9V battery (cut the connector off an old toy or something, buy one at Radio Shack, or you can just bend paper clips around the terminals like I did), then stick the bare ends of the wire into a bowl of water and you’ll get bubbles of gas coming off both wires. One is oxygen, the other is hydrogen.

    So easily of an explanation…

    Salt water check.
    battery check.
    All systems go…

    Only question…

Is this from fuel reaching the ground water?

    Shaking the magic 8 ball…

    Sources say yes.

Elenin, I tried to explain to you before. The “diagram” (which isn’t one) on the note is NOT what Euler has drawn around 1760. His original drawing was re-designed by designers to look nice on that bank note! In his original drawing we see our solar system and a comet. NOTHING unusual here.
