(Subscription Only) Title: Some progress, but radiation remains high at Fukushima nuclear plant

Journalists toured the site Oct. 12 in the fourth such visit organized by plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. [...]
Adjacent is the No. 3 reactor building. Its upper structure remains shattered, damaged by a hydrogen explosion three days after the quake and tsunami hit. Warped steel frames are now visibly rusty, testament to the period of time that has elapsed.
Radiation levels in the No. 3 reactor building remain too high for humans to work there.
For the first time, officials then took the reporters along a road on the hill side of the No. 1 and No. 2 reactor buildings.
The radiation level in the bus jumped to 800 microsieverts per hour. Nearby lies a cordoned-off area where last summer the radiation level was found to be at least 10 sieverts per hour, the highest ever recorded outside the reactor cores.

Too bad Noda did not walk thru the high radiation area to "experience" the full feeling of Fukushima..

@jec
looks like noda didnt have to walk around the high rad area to get a good dose.. the ptsd conclusion isnt taking earlier studies in to account..
A connection between Chernobyl and a recent Japanese study on PTSD in dogs
“There is more and more evidence of a “Chernobyl dementia” phenomena (deterioration of memory and motor skills, occurrence of convulsions, pulsing headaches), caused by the destruction of brain cells in adult people (Sokolovskaya, 1997).”

@Arclight I think Noda lost his mind quite some time ago. We won't need to find the Fukushima 50 now that all of these journalists are about to get sick.
No one should be touring that plant anymore. No one. The world nuclear containment experts need to come. Now.
The American voters will never forget these deliberate acts of murder and betrayal by the Japanese and American government and media officials.
My concern now is what is going to happen when people around the world finally understand the magnitude of what has happened. The outpouring of grief and rage will be unprecedented. Plan ahead as the understanding is coming very quickly.
Powerful American and Japanese doctors and congresspeople you ALL should be ashamed for not standing up to your government officials and having the Japanese evacuations expedited. You think you are protecting your fortunes but you are killing not only your kids. but the hopes of even having healthy kids for the next several generations.

kalidances, I'll speak for Noda, heheh…
Losing my mind is of no concern
as reason and sanity must be spurned
if nuclear power is to be returned.
I'm quite free of worry
as my soul I returned
just in case my decisions
might get it burned!
I'm free as a tweety-bird
out of my head
and out of concern
and feeling no dread!
Free of remorse
for how many dead,
riding high horse
into the sunset
shouting 'til hoarse
"No regret about nukes
'cause I'm already dead!"

Most structural steels are a low carbon "Mild" steel,
These frames were most likely not exposed to the weather
and were probably painted with an "Interior" paint.
18 months of rain and salt air, and unconditioned air, and these beams begin rusting.
I wouldn't worry about the surface rust, i'd worry about the cracked beams in the racs.

Thx, patb2009, for that perspective. So, the structure simply rusts in place and within a few years, if a sarcophagus is not put over it, we will be able to view the number 3 reactor after the containment walls have all fallen down. Then we can finally answer the question – is the fuel pool there or not with our own eyes?

It looks like they are still sticking with the lie of nothing but hydrogen explosions, and 10% of Chernobyl total radiation…
#3 is no big deal, no different than all the rest of the explosions, just a few more slightly rusted beams. Nothing to worry about…
All is normal, everyone is safe, no need to worry about nuclear. The 'experts' know what they are doing.
Yea, just like Nazi Germany knew what was going on in those camps.. millions were exterminated, but no one knew anything about it, despite it happening right under their noses and in their home towns.
Now we have a modern day nuclear GLOBAL genocide…
totally invisible, all looks normal, but inside, bombs are going off inside of bodies, and the fuses are 2-15 years long, so no one will know who lit the fuse down the road…
Excellent… the dark master plan is working.
Exterminate all life on the planet and no one will ever know it is happening, right to the last living thing dying from an invisible, lethal poison.

It sure looks that way AGreenRoad.
