Who will be testing for radiation? ..what scientists?

They targeted that size because they know the huge older tunas offshore New Zealand are more likely to be a Japanese bluefin tuna versus the southern bluefin that are much more common in that fishing area. The huge fishing pressure from Japanese longliners who travel every year 5,000 miles to fish outside the 200-mile limit of Australia has depleted the once numerous southern tuna.
Bigger southern tuna are scarce. The larger specimens (over 400 pounds) of Pacific tuna are usually the northern bluefin that were spawned off Japan instead of off Java for the southern tuna.
Since tuna return annually to the original spawning grounds, a large tuna from Japan caught this season in New Zealand will be a great opportunity for southern hemisphere scientists to analyze for radiation.
Lots at stake financially as well as health concerns. If huge northern tuna bioaccumulate cesium then southern tuna become more valuable in world markets.

and to add to that SP, given the fact they are subspecies of each other and can "mingle", who's gonna keep 'em seperated?

"If huge northern tuna bioaccumulate cesium then southern tuna become more valuable in world markets."
Only temporarily. News travels faster than tuna price increases.
Report Comment
Since as far as we know the trans hemisphere migration is very rare for the northern bluefin and maybe zero for the southern tuna, then separation is a moot issue. For financial advantage the southern fish will come out the winner. The southern hemisphere looks better and better all the time for humans looking to survive fallout accumulation.

No, it doesn't.
"For the first four weeks, the radioactive materials remained confined to the northern hemisphere but by 13 April was detected at stations located in Australia, Fiji, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea indicating that it had reached the southern hemisphere (CTBTO, 2011)."

There was a global wind reason On The Beach featured Australia.
I can imagine Arnie and family will be supping with Dr. Caldicott if Fukushima NPP falls prey to the spent fuel ponds out of control. Best wishes on a quick flight south. Save your money, get visas and passports current, and leave before the sheep know what is coming their way. There will only be a week in America to escape.. Less if the burning rods get into the jetstream.
Worst case scenario is not a fantasy land supposition.

does anyone see how fake this is, why would they film scientists like a reality TV show??

We've already had this exchange, it's real, get over it…

Why not. They do it all the time. Is there any other way to film them?

A friend of our family has family members in Fukushima. They are circulating a petition to get more cleanup done.
Please visit and sign the petition. I will have this link stored on a posting at my blog. Simply type Nukepro into a Google search, and then use the search box for "petition"

They don't need to "Save" Fukushima, they need to evacuate. It's gone, get over it.
Report Comment
Agreed 100% but also they need to send all the lying criminals there to do manual clean up with their families.

Tuna is at the top of the food chain. Bio accumulation of radioactive contamination will ever increase. What does this mean for us at this time? Peace.

It means start working on your bucket list.

In response to a post of mine on ENE Kelly Thomas wrote up the hard hitting summary of the nuke cartel, posted on the NRC blog and I am reproducing it here.

Wonder where Argonne Nat'l Lab in IL produced their video, it wasn't in IL at their lab, because they don't have mountains there.

Thanks for drawing attention to the letter Kelly Thomas wrote to the NRC – my favourite read since a long time. Nobody should miss it! (What a courageous girl!)

KevindBlanch is making sure i'm awake, for sure LOL i love him , but he's machingun cursing is probably counterproductif . But i would loooove to see streets filled with protesters ranting like him. Or meetings with officials and reporters like him asking questions What a champ ! lol.
Report Comment
When you replace every second word of Kevin B's rant by a "beep", then the rest sounds very relevant, intelligent and sensible. If he doesn't restrain himself a bit, police will arrest him one day for dangerous language pollution.
Report Comment
Kevin puts out clean language versions of many of his rants.. sometimes they just don't represent quite like the F bomb versions!
When I feel unable to express my outrage.. I pull up a Kevin F bomb special, and I feel like someone else gets it
Go Kevin!!

Sure thing , he makes perfect sense , otherwise he would just be a foaming village idiot , interesting mix he is. Balls to big to compromise lol. Yeah , i always enjoy a good dose of that , verbally that is .

I love that he is still talking about it but even myself (who is completely ensconced with this disaster) am rather turned off by his way of speaking with non-stop use of the word fuck. I can only imagine that others would see him as a loon which does not help our cause sadly. But yet I admire is persistence on the message.
Report Comment
Quite agree… I can't get enthralled by commentary that relies on the F word so much. Counter-intuitive… I never watch any more after the first couple minutes.
Keep nuclear protest presentable so even grandma will listen. She can handle an F-bomb or two. Not 500.

OH PLEASE!
"Insane-sized Tuna"
"Very big" is not horrific enough?
If I hear "Insane-sized" I think of some mutations.
Do we need dramatic tales?
