Seriously, they cant even find a deep sea depth finder there in assumption parish.

Well I reckon Jim, we need another spool of twine here…

Yup, "spitooie", Go wake up Henry, down at the general store. Tell him we need another fifty feet…

It's not twine Jebus, it's aircraft cable! Stop trying to make these good people look incompetent. I mean, can't you even recognize an iphone when you hear one! Jeeees….

"Yeah John, all the rope is gone off the spool. We are done here. Pull up the anchor line and let's go on home."

Except it's made of paper…no good.

    Why is this so surprising..?
Texas Brine had already found..cone shape depressions at the bottom of the sinkhole…at the depth of better than 400 ft.

"Cranch said he is confident in Texas Brine’s numbers and said surveyors have found holes in the past that he believes are similar to what Boudreaux found.

Cranch said surveyors found cone-shaped holes in October and December that extended far deeper than recorded depths of the sinkhole’s floor.

Those holes were 410-feet and 440-feet deep, respectively, data provided by Cranch shows."

    Cone shaped holes.

Texas Brine is still in charge WHY??? Does no one EVER learn anything about corruption and self-interest? Especially when public well-being is involved? Texas Brine needs to be BANNED from this investigation. Send in something like the Corps of Engineers.

      • Stacey Stacey

Corps of Engineers is govt. agency. This presents a conflict of interest. The people may want to consider hiring a private agency that would investigate on a contingency/conditional fee agreement basis where Texas Brine is responsible for the cost (as they should be).

I'll bet the two cone shape holes are one by now.

The video showed that the 750 foot cable didn't reach bottom. It could be over 1000 feet deep as far as we know.

Depth finders are good for flat bottoms, but for funnel shaped bottoms, they do little good, because you can't get a proper reflection signal off of an angle like that. You need to sound it.

By the way, the spool looked like down-rigging cable to me. Down-rigging is a form of trolling, where a heavy weight is dropped to a given depth, and the fishing line is attached to the weight with a release tab that lets go of the line when a fish strikes the bait. It's not that much different from aircraft cable, but it is designed to be used in the water.

They need to stop their self-serving fishing expedition and actually call in the feds with this. Putting Texas Brine in charge of analyzing this and cleaning it up, is sort of like TEPCO in charge of Fukushima, yes? And I know that WAY more lives are at stake with Fukushima; but I'd say that that part of Louisiana or even expanded out, has to at least count for federal PRIORITY, yes? Do we just sacrifice whole local areas because the corrupt locals don't DO anything??

I would assume that it has the capability of getting close to the depth of breach..via the natural disturbed rock zone… give or take a few hundred ..a thousand feet or so of false bottom debris.

Here's how the hard hitting "journalist" of the capital city cover this story (by reading the blog and misinterpreting the information… hmm, honest mistake? or…)

Assumption Parish emergency officials say they've now got a better idea just how deep the center of the massive sinkhole is in Bayou Corne.

Parish emergency officials did a depth experiment on Saturday. They used a chord to measure the depth. It went down to 750 feet to the bottom. Parish leaders have sent the info to the blue ribbon commission. That's the group who will help figure out when it's ok for residents to go home.

posted at 8pm on Sunday night 7/21 you would think they would have had plenty of time to come up with something better than that. But no. If you live here, this is standard operating procedure. Placate the "rubes" and protect big industry/politicians.

  • We Not They Finally

Oh, I have an idea: "Journey to the Center of the Earth." A once great sci-fi film. And they all came back unharmed. And they didn't even have that "high-tech cord" to pre-test the terrain.

By the way, their CORD is "high tech"? Have they NO capacity to do ANYTHING right? Where is high-tech sophisticated military equipment when you actually NEED it? And these are people experienced in drilling OIL wells into the sea?? The locals SO need to step out of the way by now.

Who even believes this? Have they no capacity to tell anyone the truth about anything? Just two days ago, their geologist point man, Gary Hecox, said this was "unlike anything in the history of Mankind," yet they hadn't a clue what it was — and now they are testing its depth with a CORD? Are they completely brain-dead or is there some "brilliant strategy" at work WHY they are not telling the truth?

  • We Not They Finally

Does anyone want to research the history of blue ribbon commissions? They are mostly in charge of stalling and/or covering up.

Why are they using cable and not sonar depth finders? Send any number of fishermen out there with their fish finders and they'll tell you the depth.
