Surry nuclear Unit 2 restart stalls, Associated Press, June 22, 2011:
[...] A Virginia Dominion Power spokesman said Tuesday the utility has aborted efforts to restart the unit, which has been out of service since an April 16 tornado knocked out electricity.
The spokesman, Richard Zuercher, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that Unit 2 was shut down on Monday after a problem was detected in one of the unit’s cooling ducts. [...]

Not radioactivity! We can manufacture massive amounts of that and it never goes away!

A few years ago I sprinkled boric acid on an ant hill. Next time I looked, I was startled to find they had hauled pine needles some distance and made bridges. Ants of any size would be my choice for a replacement when we are gone. Wonder it they can cope with the cockroaches.
How can we warn the ants to avoid nuclear power?

@tony wilson: Yes, you are right – everything we make does break at some point. As someone with 20+ years professional experience in the info tech scene there is one axiom I know to be irrefutably true:
* TECHNOLOGY IS NOT RELIABLE *
Any honest motor mechanic or nuclear power plant worker or I.T. professional (amongst others) would certainly agree.
So, it is a simple chain of logic:
* All technology is not reliable and is guaranteed to fail at some point.
* True nuclear power plant “safety” is only possible if the failsafe systems (that are technological) work 100% of the time, without any failure – ever.
* Therefore, it is impossible to have a “safe” nuclear plant as this “safety” is dependent on inherently unreliable technology, which is guaranteed to fail at some point.
Given that the inevitable failure of “safety” systems at a single nuclear power plant can kill potentially millions (and even billions) of people, this technology should simply be “outlawed” as the famous Admiral Rickover (who helped build the first nuclear power plant in the USA) said before a committee of Congress in 1982.

“Rains in the Midwest have been torrential this month and one thing that nobody expected is for the Missouri River to pose a threat to nuclear reactors just outside of Omaha, Nebraska. The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a state of emergency as flood waters continue to rise and invade both the Calhoun and Cooper Nuclear Stations. When the waters crest, more than 10 feet of water is expected to be inside the reactors.”

Look at all these reactors messing up in the USA since the Japanese disaster. One of three things must be taking place. Earth changes, hack attacks, or they are finally doing their job at nuke plants know how bad it could get. I am willing to be they turned off many alarms at many plants or went to override in the past. All the engineers are cracking their whips and stuff is getting done. Now we see the true state and threats these possess.
