Title:Ghost Town
Source: CNN
Date: Jan 25, 2012

“Tomioka, in the southern end of the exclusion zone, has a lower level of contamination than towns to the north and northwest of the plant.

But a lower level doesn’t mean it’s safe to be here long. We stop in a neighborhood to check the radiation. On the pavement, the surface reads a radiation level of 0.042 millisieverts per hour, which is 10 times what you’re exposed to in a dental x-ray. Not a significant problem since we’re in the exclusion zone for a short visit and wearing protective suits. But living on this street carries possible long-term health risks, especially for children.”

ENENEW ADMIN and the whole ENENEWS Community. The radiation is spreading world wide. People need to feel they can do something to protect themselves and their families, or to at least limit the effects of the radioactive fallout on their families, health and well being.

I suggest that we create a dedicated survival page as a community effort. This page would be filled with survival suggestions and information on it.

There is a huge amount of information in enenews and also a great resource of human skills and knowledge here. I feel the survival info should all be in one location, as it is to fragmented over lots of pages at present. Here are a few suggested subjects, everyone please feel free to add others.

    1. Suggested Geiger counters to buy, and how to use them properly, and prevent contamination.
    2. Food testing equipment that is cost effective in detecting radiation contamination in food. May mean communities pool resources to purchase the equipment, plus tips on how to use it.
    3. You already have a great source of food suggestions to help remove radiation, and keep people healthy. We need these suggestions in one place.
    4. Suggested water and air purification equipment.
    5. A frequently asked question page.

You get the idea. I feel lots of enenews users would be willing to contribute drafts in specialist areas. Then you would add them to the survival page. This way it spreads the work load, and gives hope to the enenews community, and to others who may venture here.

I like how they use millisieverts to make it look like it is a really tiny amount. Most people don’t know what a sievert is so they think .042 is really low. Sad and pathetic that all you see and hear is planned out ahead of time to make you think certain ways.

I love the word presstitute. Why didn’t she say that decon is actually impossible and makes the radiation levels increase sometimes. Did she talk about the tradioactive pollen that will get sucked into little kids lungs? How about showing us the way these people live now, due to the meltdowns? The real cost of nuclear energy. Why don’t we ever see that? Have you ever seen a msm piece that wasn’t propaganda?

yeah i know what you mean about using micro seiverts to describe how much zap is on the ground.

.043 milisieverts per hour = 4.3 Rads per hour.

if a person layed on the ground at that spot, 232 hours later he/she would absorb 1000 Rads, which would be a fatal dose in most cases.

If this reporter new the information we new she wouldn’t be taking her mask off. The general public and the media have no idea about the danger they face, or how to protect themselves from radioactive fallout.

At least we can educate those who venture here. :)

Nuclear plants pose risks to drinking water for Illinois
    Staff Report
CHICAGO — The drinking water for 652,000 people in Illinois could be at risk of radioactive contamination from a leak or accident at a local nuclear power plant, says a new study released Jan. 24 by the Illinois Public Interest Research Group Education Fund (Illinois PIRG).
Brian Imus, Illinois PIRG state director, explained: “The danger of nuclear power is too close to home. Nuclear power plants in Illinois pose a risk to drinking water for more than 600,000 Illinoisans. An accident like the one in Fukushima, Japan, or a leak could spew cancer-causing radioactive waste into our drinking water.”
The nuclear meltdown in Fukushima, Japan, last year drew a spotlight on the many risks associated with nuclear power. After the disaster, airborne radiation left areas around the plant uninhabitable, and even contaminated drinking water sources near Tokyo, 130 miles from the plant.

vital 1, that is a good idea.

I work with people, very part time, in a natural healing related office, and I tell almost everyone I see about Fuk.

Pretty much without exception, it is news to them. They get this surprised look on their faces. It is quite rare for them to express much interest. So I will plow on with the suggestions and info, but I don’t go on too long unless they express some interest.

By and large, these are people who are interested in natural healing and health, often doing quite a lot to try to preserve/improve their health, & they understand the corruption in mainstream medicine and big pharma to some extent at least… but it seems like this Fukushima situation is just ‘a bridge too far’ for most of them.

It adds considerably to that very creepy feeling that is my constant companion these days, that I am living in a real-life sci fi horror movie.

Two movies are on my mind a lot, the original B&W INVASION OF THE BODY-SNATCHERS and of course DR. STRANGELOVE.

I revere those films, absolutely worship at their shrines! They are so well-done – STRANGELOVE especially, of course, it is brilliant – BODYSNATCHERS is weaker, more flawed, but it has some unforgettable scenes and gets the feeling down perfectly, the feeling of living pretty much alone in the midst of a bunch of creepy mind-controlled zombies. Sorry – sounds so harsh (present company excepted, of course!) – but that is exactly the feeling I have.

Yes, it feels like that sometimes doesn’t it. Most people seem to be asleep at the wheel, so distracted and unaware of what they are up against.

I have created a handout which I email, or give to people when I go on my morning walk, plus I put a few in some local letterboxes each time.

You don’t need to explain anything just distribute it. You are welcome to use it.

  • I am amazed that even this much appeared on the news.. Wow

And she measured the radiation RIGHT ON THE GROUND, instead of doing above the ground, in the air readings, so that the radiation readings will go much lower.

She did the reading in the middle of the street, right on the asphalt, which would tend to lower the reading because rain and vehicles tend to wash it off. Now what would the reading be over in the dirty ditch where all of the radiation washes off and concentrates? Maybe double, triple or even higher?

And then we can go up in a helicopter and reduce the radiation reading even more..

It all has the appearance of being safe, first because all radiation is totally invisible. It must not be that bad, if we cannot see it, smell it, hear it, or feel it. Out of sight, out of mind.

After that, it just depends on how one chooses to measure it… like this news reporter..

I’m sorry! You folks don’t seem to be getting the SCALE of the problem here!

Day #1… WE should have stopped all construction of new nucular plants, and used the funds and started building TERRARIUMS type covers over our heartlands! Also, over all our meat-animals grass lands!, and water-sheds! THEN, decontaminate what was UNDER such… so we could grow clean food!

Now? Shit… all our prime soil is non-viable for growing non-radioactive foods and our water is contaminated as well.

We need to start finding tech to FIX IT! HERE! The mainland of Japan is beyond recovery at this point! It has gone PAST 30 stadiums… FILLED to the ROOF just to deal with the worst of the soil!… and that’s not counting the ‘light rad’ stuff! That doesn’t count buildings, animals, plants… ect!

A detector is now a mandatory device to check your food and living space here in the USA. Thanks to your tax dollars at work in the wrong hands!

Yes nuclear waste is best contained with “tarps”. Lead barrels would be a lot more effective if they had billions of barrels to scrape the ground every time Fukushima releases new clouds of Xenon and Cesium. It is a nuclear hell no one should ever be withing 250km of the plant.
