“Friends of the Earth launched a new television ad campaign today targeting the utility Southern California Edison, the operator of the troubled San Onofre nuclear reactors, which are currently closed due to serious safety problems. The ad parallels the threat from San Onofre’s troubled reactors with the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan — and notes that eight million Americans live within 50 miles of San Onofre, the distance the U.S. government advised should be evacuated in the Japan disaster. The ad urges residents to let the utility know that their families come first and that it must keep the reactors closed.” -Friends of the Earth, April 2

“A commercial slamming the safety record at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station will air on CNN and MSNBC this week.” -Patch, April 4

    A Commercial? Just a Commercial? How long? 30 seconds? A full minute?

    I'm sorry. This just won't do. We need an all day fundraiser event like they do for muscular dystrophy or starvation in Bangladesh.

    We need a non stop TV extravaganza so that whenever anyone turns on the TV, where-ever, whenever, all they see is the horrors of Nukie, Fuky, Cherny, TMIY deformed babies! Non stop, Cover to Cover, All day, Every channel! No folks, no DWTS today. No March Madness. No stories on the latest rape, robbery, murder or mass slaughter.

    All ya get is what you are creating…extinction of species through irreversible mutagenic insanity.

    Maybe we could get Robert Redford, Ted Turner, and other multi multis to host, fundraise and promote for this.

      @dharma: I very much agree :-) And during this telethon there should be jumbotrons placed on all major city squares with local events taking place there too. Like radiation, there would be no escape!

      However, this too is a step in the right direction. A baby step i grant you but i think it might be a powerful one. The commercial is very cleverly made and drives home quick, simple points that play on human emotion. Using corporate weapons against themselves, one might say. Everybody needs to be educated on what Big Nuclear is all about and what it does to people but sadly, most people get bored with all those details and the mass of technical data. To really make people aware and get them to react, we need a lot more of this.

      When enough people became aware there would be a huge mass of support which is needed to do a telethon of these proportions :-)

      NOT SO QUICK. There is something very wrong about this entire clip.

      Did you see who paid for the clip? Friends of the Earth. Now look at a quote by the founder:

      "Childbearing [should be] a punishable crime against society, unless the parents hold a government license … All potential parents [should be] required to use contraceptive chemicals, the government issuing antidotes to citizens chosen for childbearing."

      NOBODY gets that kind of airplay on CNN without approval from the big boys.

        good info, but I'm very sure wrong conclusion: do you really think CNN and MSNBC agreed to air this *because* of Brower's twisted & fanatic views? I bet you if they had known about his attitude, they would much rather *NOT* have signed up to air it. And who knows, maybe they get to know about the odd connotation, and pull back ..

        Too bad a weirdo seems to be behind this commercial – even though I am still grateful that somebody is courageous enough to get really public. More of that from renowned sources, like Greenpeace etc. And yes, prime time.

          Apologies for over-simplifying things with my original comment about the "big boys".

          What really happens is called "compartmentalization". This isn't any different from how many organizations run their operations on a "need to know basis" when it comes to individual employees, including the CXOs and board members, who may or may not be aware of the underlying philosophy and motives of the movements they promote.
