I will say this now
….chernobyl was our awakening. We should have stopped all this back then. But 'ironically' the first country this happened in also happened to be a totally communist, secretive, cold war country who ordered 600,000 of their population into the area (99% of whom had NO understanding of radiation).
Those people saved the rest of the world and have since died or never been thanked for it. Has the japanese government called on 600,000 of its population to clean up?? (remembering that was just one reactor) has the japanese government DEMANDED 2,400,000 members of it's population come forward and DEAL with this…..OF COURSE NOT! the only reason we survived chernobyl was 'ironically' due to it's dictatorial answer to this problem which was…."as many of our citizens as it takes"
Just want to put that into context…"600,000 liquidators" for 1 reactor. Its been over 18 months with 3 reactor meltdowns (as chernobyl) and a precarious fourth fuel pool.
OUR LESSONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEARNED IN APRIL '86.
http://youtu.be/lNc4MvI2s08
How many japanese 'civilians' would run in to unit 1 (let alone the rest) to pick up a piece of graphite from the reactor with their bare hands???
Fuku is not chernobyl…..and yet 3 and 1/2 times is.

This is a critical issue. Chernobyl was a huge wake up call and somehow we did not respond well enough, seems we only drove the nuclear gang deeper into their cave to keep producing atomic power of war. Not atoms for peace…
Japan is sacrificing its people as we speak. The original sacrifices were/are the Yakuza, hired dirt cheap to go into places to do things at the nuclear plants that others will not do. Thrown away people. And we witnessed pregnant mothers and children having been convinced it's okay for them to "suit up" and work in radiation zones on decontamination projects that don't amount to diddly as the NPPs keep spewing. Communities, not all the citizens, but many, were convinced to stay in radiation zones. It's the economy, stupid. Told it was safe to do so. New construction was built using contaminated concrete. It was so hot residents had to move. There's an interview with the sole inhabitant. They couldn't afford to move. And the children eating contaminated food and milk at school. There will be, in the end, many who were sacrificed for this catastrophe which – as far back as the drawing boards at General Electric & the nods in favor of profit over safety at shareholder meetings, handshakes between GE and Presidents. TEPCO must have learned a lot of what it does from Gen Electric. And NISA JP from NRC USA. Our planet the earth which provides us with air and water, soil to cultivate – is also sacrificed. Our opportunity to live healthy lives are…

Sadly, we have not yet even survived Chernobyl. That is an ongoing disaster, a time bomb for the next thousand years and more. The concrete over it is cracking even now. Even worse nuclear reactors and warheads sit on the ocean floor, casings eroding to eventual release into already sickened oceans. Might take a few hundred years, possibly less, but the seeds of our death as a race are already planted.

'we have not yet even survived Chernoby' how horribly true. Thanks for putting it that way.

These are the Fukushima children with cysts in their thyroid. Maybe half of them.
If 40% of people in fukushima want to leave the region, I guess that they mainly include family who can't afford to leave.
I can't imagine parents with children who have cyst and want to stay but maybe there are a few. But there must be, because in a given population, only maximum 35% have no children or grand children. So among the 65% of the population, most are families and some of them want to stay! They want their children exercise in these conditions! I can't imagine single men and women who do not have to fear so much because they do not have family to care for, giving orders to children of other parents such as eating contaminated food, exercising in highly contaminated fileds, etc… They are playing the bully. If I catch one of them torturing these children… But for those who want to leave this horror I think very hard for you and pray that you will be okay.

Dear TTRpill.. Spot on!! 400 of the very best Soviet military aviators gave it up in the first 10 days after Chernobyl. dumping lead, boron, sand, etc. onto the corium.. from big choppers. Some knew and sacrificed, and suffered mightily..

Are you the person who said they were testing radiation levels in San Diego back last year?
Apologies if I have you confused with someone else….

Radiation illnesses and deaths are masked over time amid general ill health. Letting these people die is simply practical for businesses and governments who take the approach that a certain amount of suffering must go on to achieve progress. The same rationale is used to wage war, oppress minorities, and hyper-exploit the planet. We need to stop following these leaders of such little vision and imagination.
