Title: Long-term Sources: To what extent are marine sediments, coastal groundwater, and rivers a source of ongoing contamination?
Source: Science Symposium at University of Tokyo
Date: Nov. 13, 2012

Professor Jota Kanda, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology:

In the basement of the reactor housings […] they used to have 156 petabecquerels of Cs-137 […]

156 is a huge amount. Double the amount released from Chernobyl, even getting close to the value released from global fallout from bomb testing. [...]

The volume remains about the same, presumably because of the inflow of groundwater into the basement.

If there is inputting of groundwater, there might be outputting of groundwater, I don’t know.

The possible groundwater seepage from nearby seafloor — that’s something I think. However we have no data indicative of this seep from the seafloor.

There were fresh and hot cores at the FDNPP complex pre 3/11. I'd bet dollars to donuts that a couple of them shot out of containment into the ocean like a roman candle.

Wow. Didn't even think of that one. Think it's more likely that the coriums SANK, than that they shot up into the air! Not that when the coriums met the AQUIFER below the plant (good God!), it didn't gush gazillions of gallons of water into the sea on an ongoing basis. It obviously did! Does! Will continue to!

But with reactor 3 — yeah, the explosion apparently sent it sky high into the ATMOSPHERE — the banks circling the Earth with deadly plutonium. More than enough to poison us ALL.

How many images of RPV's has TEPCO paraded across the cameras? Therefore, we can ponder the possibility of flying cores and pin wheeling cores zipping down the beach. Not only was it a possibility, it's interesting to imagine.

John Kerry squanders more $$ in one day chasing chemical weapons in Syria than it would cost to build a ring of 3 concentric breakwaters around Fukushima. How many could die from chemical weapons in Syria compared to how many will die from uncontrolled radiation releases on the beach in Japan??……..

    http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/john-kerry-chemical-weapons-were-used-in-syria

…..a BILLION people will die from 2200 tons of radwaste dumped on the beach in Japan.

John Kerry could have replaced "syria" with "fukushima" in today's speech and he might have earned more respect from me.

I remember Chernobyl being the #1 news story for several months in 1986..
..and now in 2013 a nuke disaster at least a dozen times worse doesn't get more press attention than transgendered pornstars getting HIV in the military under Obamacare while being spied on by the NSA.

Chernobyl is still killing people, and Fukushima can potentially reduce the average life-span of all humans to 30 years.

21stC, interesting that you said that the life span of humans could be reduced to 30 years. Early disease onset from radioactive pounding, can do that for sure.

It's just so much worse here. Deformed babies. Belarus' children are destroyed from Chernobyl and in Fallujah, Iraq, the women are told to NOT BEAR CHILDREN because the chance of deformities from the depleted uranium the U.S. used in its weaponry, is so high.

What is so pernicious now is to see the strategy of lies start to take hold here in the U.S. Like the Cancer Treatment Centers of America just now started an ad campaign that "genomic testing" is the future of cancer research. Oh, my God, now why would THAT be, pray tell?

And recently, on CBS, some "expert" informed us that DNA damage can cause cancer, like it was just another carcinogen, and with NO mention of radiation.

It's starting. Preparing the AMERICAN public to ACCEPT THE UNACCEPTABLE. Then maybe whole families will discover that they suddenly have "defective genes." Even though that family line never had defective genes before. Then they'll say that the scientists don't know why — they'll study it. Radiation? Don't know — it could be a bunch of things, yes?

It's starting already. We just have no safe, hallowed place to go and scream.

            Salt
            Reactors
..stand out as a much better solution to permanent disposal of our existing inventory of new & used nukefuels.
We have many thousands of tons of this crap stacked up all over the world sitting in shaky SPF's with only one failed solution of permanent dry-cask storage disposal.

Yucca & Carlsbad are not good enough for me..
we actually have better geology than those two silly choices..
even IF we are to use dry-cask in places like this it means we need to go to all the effort of packing & transport..
—and then we are stuck with storing it in a very dangerous state for millions of years.

            http://transatomicpower.com/company.php

            I'm not a THORIUM-freak..

I pray for a permanent moratorium on actinide mining !!

..but I do see a way to create the same risk-level as permanent dry-cask disposal of our crazy-risky SPF's AND create a self-sustaining business model for accelerating the final cycling-down of the dangerous waste into a much less toxic mess while actually doing much the same final solution as dry-dumb permanent storage.

…our current plague of BWR's use only 7% of the total energy in the nukepukefuel, this is why it stays dangerous.

It's just a theory, untried and untested in wide scale use. Once you open the door to the nuclear industry, and allow them an alternative way to consume us, they will never let go. The only answer as you have said is an immediate stoppage of any and all nuclear power generation and obviously use the funds saved to impart a VIABLE solution that eliminates the mess. A pipe dream, I know, but I refuse to acknowledge anything they say as a solution given the track record and history of lies. Again two wrongs do not make a right. I do not have a solution, but unproven theories are just another way to continue the old failed way. Shut it all down and force a moratorium upon the industry. The only viable option right now after shutting all down, is to just let it set somewhere as safe as possible till the technology is developed to eliminate the threat. This should be mankinds primary goal globally along with eliminating all active nuclear weapons before all this atoms for piece eliminates all life. Another pipe dream akin to the theory of WAMSERS…

I might add that we, this planet does not need nuclear power at all to generate electrical energy. The base load that natural gas provides is a viable and as clean as it gets, besides hydro, for a base load in electricity. The funds saved can be used to ramp up the obvious simplicity of renewable free energy after infrastructure placement. Mankind will never advance on this planet while plutonium bombs are at the ready and while fission power is active. We are destined to make that one mistake with this failed technology that sends this earth into a dying death spiral, if we haven't already…

Simply put, or KISS. We have 5 blocks of energy resources. Two of those are finite and filthy. Three of those are endless and comparatively clean. Right now we are depending on the two that are the filthiest and finite and one that is essentially free and clean.. What are we waiting for to replace the two dirtiest ones with the two essentially free clean ones?

In 1970-74 when we were planning the Alaska TAPS CRUDoil pipeline I was roundly ridiculed for promoting the idea it should be a hydrogen rich clean gasline instead of a messy crudpipe.

The API is still stuck on stupid while lying to everybody that crudeoil is more valuable than gas.. they have been intentionally wasting gas for a century while using crudoil as the preferred petrochemical feedstock.

All oil & coal & biomass can be efficiently gasified, and enriched with hydrogen stripped from water. Syngas is much easier to produce than BigOil wants you to believe. Syngas can be mini-scale decentralized to community sustainable farm-commerce.

Lost-orphan natgas is lost to the wind in bigger quantity than gas-fracking produces.

If we forced BigOil to produce gas only at the wellhead the energy dividend would exceed nukepower.

Everything we make from crudoil can be made from nat/syngas cheaper.

My point is that it is still a fossil fuel, it is finite and should be retired. It still adds to the carbon load in our atmosphere and while co2 is good for plant life it still makes a "blanket" when at the levels we are seeing today.

Why not embrace the necessary cost, effort, and benefits of hydro(including wave), solar and wind. Surely the costs can be no more than what has been spent on failed nuclear in 60 years. Why not leave our legacy as a positive now that reaps tremendous rewards future wise rather than leaving a stinking pile of fossil and nuclear shit upon future generations. After all isnt the future the reason we carry on? Who are we at this moment in time to spoil the garden for future generations in the name of a dollar. We only have the right to make things better…

When the meltdown happened the fuel traveled through the bedrock under the reactors and made it's way into the ocean, I watched an interview with a physicist who stated this happened. The fuel is continuing to travel and the scientists were theorizing it could result in hydro-volcanism when it reaches the core of the earth.

Science is not sure what will happen, because of the historic nature of this meltdown.

In response to the news that mass quantities of highly-radioactive water are flowing from Fukushima into the Pacific Ocean – and that the radioactivity is spreading to North America – the usual suspects are saying that that low-level radiation won’t hurt anyone.

Indeed, some are advocating intentionally dumping all of Fukushima’s radiation into the sea as a “safe” solution.

(And some folks are pretending that a little radiation is good for you.)

    The truth is quite different.

My four year old dog just had a humongous malignant tumor on her neck removed. At four years old? I just took my sick cat in and my vet says she has a nodule on her thyroid and it might be cancerous, and I'm saving the seeds from my deformed sunflower that went into hyperdrive and was about five deformed heads fused into one. In 40 years of gardening I've never seen anything like it. My brother in law got leukemia last year, living on the California coast, and a friend of mine was just diagnosed with it two months ago. I honestly don't want to jump to conclusions but this is too much. This is also two summers after the Los Alamos fire that caused the authorities to deploy 70+ radiation monitors in various communities and flying overhead. Of course we were told there were no problems. I don't know if it's from here or from Fukushima, but when someone brought up hormesis again on another site, and how low doses will make all of us stronger, I wanted to twist his head off.

Your pets are the "canary in the coal mine". I had a carbon monoxide leak in my furnace. (unknown to me) I was having headaches, but my dog started throwing up. My sister came over because I was too sick to take her to the vet, and my sister started getting a headache. Sis called the gas company and they evacuated me. 4 months later my 5yo dog was dead from lymphoma, and the vet said it was probably from the damage from the co2 leak. It might be worth getting some blood tests done to make sure you are ok.

I worked a dioxin site and the anecdotals re: pet deaths from cancer was sad and foreboding for owners whose own cancer battles often followed. Nose to ground is how most pets negotiate their environment. There's no reason to suspect it works the same with co2, but better safe than sorry.

My vet said that my cat can get an injection of radioactive iodine to kill the diseased thyroid gland. My cat would have to stay in the hospital for five days though because her waste would be radioactive and they would have to collect it for that long to dispose of it properly. I wanted to laugh hysterically in his face but I didn't.

About a month ago tepco plugged a major leak ( after two and half years ) and since then the water table has risen above sea level and the laws of hydrodynamics apply.
The grounds surrounding reactors must be heavily contaminated and has had two and a half years to leach into soil.

What I fail to understand if the corium is in ground then it must be submerged in water, as it is below the water table, does that mean that tepco believes that the majority of corium is still in containment, hence the need to continue to pour water into reactors? the containment is cracked and water is escaping, I don't know.

All I know is we have to isolate the site from ground water and install a closed loop cooling system and empty the SFP first priority.

So, in muy small understanding, air, rain, pacífic ocean and latter … all water in the world, since it is conected worldwide…….
Food, fish, fish-eaters, clamps, mammals, us ,…. are already poisoned with plutonio + others and continúe poisoned un dayly basis….. and this will only worse until worst?
If that is not enough …… it is extremely posible to occur an accident? Or simply come something unavoidable?
I am now sure that we will receive much worse news very very soon…

There is a huge amount of mercury circling the globe constantly. It is blown in the dust up into the atmosphere, falls into the ocean and on land in rain, dries and becomes airborne again. Is taken up by fish, moves up the food chain. Is produced by mining operations and washed to the ocean by rivers. On and on and on. I imagine radioactive substances do the same thing.

Fukushima in freefall: radioactive water filters taken offline, Tokyo Electric Power Company in desperation as leaks just won't stop
    August 27, 2013 NaturalNews
After a 29-month cover-up, the Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) is now calling for international help and has all but admitted Fukushima's radiation leaks are spiraling out of control. In addition to the leaking water storage units that are unleashing hundreds of tons of radioactive water each day, Tepco now says 50% of its contaminated water filtration capability has been taken offline due to corrosion.
The result is that radiation leaks are escalating out of control and attempted remediation efforts are faltering. This is in addition to the fact the Japanese government's attempted brainwashing propaganda campaign has also been exposed. It attempted to convince people that if they drank beer or smiled, they would be immune to radiation poisoning. (Yes, this is how desperate they've become…)

Natural News exclusive: Fukushima victim exposes Japanese government's attempted bizarre brainwashing of radiation victims
    August 21, 2013 NaturalNews
The following is a first-person account of the attempt by the Tokyo Electric Power Company and Japanese government to brainwash victims of Fukushima radiation poisoning into believing radiation would not harm them if they simply "smile." Natural News is the first U.S. news source to publish this account in English. The name of the original author is Uwamae Masako, who now lives in Taiwan after escaping Fukushima and leaving behind many friends and family members.
As you'll see below, the Japanese government's Fukushima Radiation Health Risk Advisor uses a hypnotic, droning speech pattern to try to convince his audience of absolutely bizarre quack science beliefs like "people who drink aren't affected by radiation" or that "laughter will remove your radiation phobia."

1st post. I saw that NN item and also the comment from a citizen of Japan below it. They indicated they weren't that stupid and conformist… What was really being said in that vid was that the game is up.

Ain't it odd how the Germans were set up for WWI and II then we've the Japanese getting repeatedly nuked.

I'm new to the site so may have missed the idea floating around that Fukushima was in fact sabotaged. I concur, having perused Jim Stone's analysis. Both bombs and Stuxnet via Mossad were utilized. And of course, this is just one event. There's the Gulf… and someone here linked to a site monitoring methane levels. Cripes! Ain't it curious that there was a movie years back about et's releasing methane into the atmosphere?

SOMETHING is gonna give on a massive scale. There are simply too many vectors now to come through unscathed. This list in rather incredible… so much so that it would appear to be beyond both chance and irresponsibility. It's more like some faction trying to wipe the surface of the planet clean.

No coincidence they built all those underground cities, with our hard earned money.

I now find it hilarious when folks speak of karma. The legacy on this planet is the suffering of the innocent……
