Can We Cope With A Terror Attack In Los Angeles?
University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism
Reut Cohen
May 3, 2012

[...] A team of researchers recently completed a Department of Homeland Security-funded study that assesses the regional economic impacts of a hypothetical catastrophic event like a radiological dispersal device (RDD) attack or a “dirty bomb” attack on Los Angeles’ financial district compared to a natural disaster like an earthquake. Such an attack has the potential to cause radioactive fallout across the city and surrounding areas—thereby causing a mass exodus and significant damage to commerce. [...]

Fear causes a “dampening effect on the economy,” according to [Adam Rose, who studied the major economic impacts of the disaster], which would mean ripple effects as costs increase that impact demand for goods, prices and quantities of products. The public’s fear has the potential to cost 15 times more than the original wreckage and clean-up.

[...] Carefully crafting messages to both advise the public and alleviate fears not only helps to prevent panic, but also helps to prevent long-term economic harm. Anything that can be done from a policy standpoint to reduce excessive fear from the public has considerable benefits.

“Anything we can do from a policy standpoint that can reduce excessive public concern about an event has huge economic benefits,” said [William Burns, a decision research scientist at California State San Marcos]. “We’re not trying to bamboozle the public. We want them to believe the truth based on expert, objective people.”

  • CLOWNS! CRIMINAL CLOWNS!!!!

Why don't they put a dirty bomb materials in their labs and offices, and then prove to us that the ill effect is easily offset by the value of their research.

And there we have it in a nutshell. Telling the truth to people about the amount of fallout they are being contaminated with, would be bad for business and interfere with profit making. Avoiding damage to the economy is more important than a few million people getting sick and dying early painful deaths.

That's why, in the midst of the world's worst nuclear disaster, the EPA has turned off monitoring. To keep citizens in the radioactive dark.

A government by, of, and for the people— my arse!

Assume want Uncle Arnie prays hasn't happened has and we have set the wheels in motion. Look around, this is what we did IT for…looking at whats on my deck lets see…earplugs,a cellphone, business cards, instant shoe wax, a coffee cup (by the way, what raise platform did Diogenes have to fell from to forget he had two perfectly goods hands)…heres a good one…canned air!

Yes, by all means, lets maintain this economic order…whatever the cost.

The EPA has a "playbook" –bet u it has the "manage the public so we can get more tax dollars" as well. Sickening WE THE TAXPAYERS –have been billed for this study. Isnt there something like no taxation without representation? Who were the representative/senators, or other ELECTED officals who approved this contract? Who was the contractor? I thought about it. There is no one to call. If I werent already jobless id, what? Quit and protest?

Didnt help after 911. It wont help now. The point is for things to get SOOO bad, that we BEG for more Govt.(Thats the UN, folks!)

Does anyone here think more Govt anything will help? If we cry for Govt to do something, anything,
WHATS THEIR SUCESS RATE? You see, this is out of our control but will lead to more control.

They are playing off a UN mandate, and an ancient Ideal. Its real. Please dont cry for help from a Govt, anywhere, for any reason. They have left the card table for the parlor. The rest is history.

the rotten dogs. this whole media silence has been driven from the top down for 'economic' reasons. and for protecting the butts of the 'management' that should now be in jail.

unbelievable. actually, no, it is believeable. this world is corrupted to the core, all for the 'mighty' dollar.

This is the same DHS who said 'No nukes at WTCs', will not tell us who did 9-11, halted water and other vital supplies to Katrina victims, will not tell us who did 9-11, will not repeat that the senate determined BP and Halliburton intentionally blew out the DH oil well in the GoM, will not tell us who is using HAARP weather augmentation to destroy property and kill and injure people in the US, and the same DHS who ignores the Wall Street looting and ignores a large number of government and private sources determining that Fukushima was intentionally blown up by Israelis while a 6.76 earthquake went off. Therefore, the DHS is nothing beyond sex offenders armed with 450,000 rounds of .40 caliber hollow point ammunition for killing people after target practice with cheaper target ammo. In ELEVEN YEARS,they have yet to find a terrorist and I have dozens of video copies given out showing obvious sexual molestation of adults and children. Not all agents are molesters. They know who they are. These molesters have been given access to 450,000 rounds of .40 hollow point ammunition for killing people after they have used practice rounds at the firing range.

Dear DHS…You will find that the truth tellers don't give a rats arse about the financial benefits of hiding the true radiation levels/ amount of fallout.
    No..not at all.
In your lies..and cover-up…you are exposing your own family and friends to high doses of radiation.
    THINK ABOUT IT.
Look them in the eye over dinner..explain how this is for their health and safety.
Explain to them..that enforcing laws that are contrary to the Constitution is for the benefit of this country.
You(DHS) and I know Fukushima is the game changer..

We're already independent of the government: taking our own readings, black powder in Japan, samples in Tokyo and other cities, as well as those collected in the U.S. and analyzed in labs. And we have several real time monitoring sites. The efforts are expanding and improving all the time.

Not meaning to belabor the obvious, but this is an object lesson in official doublespeek:
"Such an attack has the potential to cause radioactive fallout across the city and surrounding areas—thereby causing a mass exodus and significant damage to commerce". Is public health the primary concern of officialdom? Why, no it isn't. "Damage to commerce" is.

"Fear causes a “dampening effect on the economy,” according to [Adam Rose, who studied the major economic impacts of the disaster], which would mean ripple effects as costs increase that impact demand for goods, prices and quantities of products. The public’s fear has the potential to cost 15 times more than the original wreckage and clean-up". Let's not panic the public! Fear would interrupt the flow of money from the people into the pockets of the peddlers. We must find ways of calming public fears. How can we do this?

"Anything we can do from a policy standpoint that can reduce excessive public concern about an event has huge economic benefits,” said [William Burns, a decision research scientist at California State San Marcos]. “We’re not trying to bamboozle the public. We want them to believe the truth based on expert, objective people”. The goal of public officials is to reduce excessive concern, and keep the economy going. How? By trotting out an expert to bamboozle people.

Now, think back, and follow the actions of TEP.gov, NRC, EPA, Homeland Security, et al since 311. This is their…

Memo to DHS (and to the Japanese pro-business lobby): focus your propaganda on the women. Don't let women network or talk to each other about which relative or neighbour had a miscarriage, spontaneous abortion or "stillbirth" (including grossly deformed baby euthanased at birth). Those are the key horror stories that will turn a woman off from ever wanting to risk bearing a monster, or to suffer the inconsolable grief of losing a much-beloved toddler to leukaemia.

Once women get networking and figure out that they are being lied to, that will add anger to sorrow, add to shattered dreams of "safe" parenthood, and eventually lead to falling populations. This is already happening in Belarus and the heavier-polluted parts of Ukraine.

So focus all your efforts on encouraging women to have more and more babies. Maybe make maternal lobotomies compulsory, so they go on breeding even when a woman is depressed and grieving. Er, maybe not…

My personal view is that the planet is significantly over-populated already, but a nuclear pollution disaster is not the way anyone would want to cull a population. And obviously the global business lobby will use every trick in the book to try to keep the ECONOMIC GROWTH juggernaut trundling "FORWARD":
