MARIKO BENDER, a Japanese-American native of Fukushima, with the World Network for Saving Children from Radiation: People in Fukushima are trapped in this highly contaminated area. It is as if they are in a gas chamber. [...] Children in Fukushima cannot breathe like we do. Every moment of their lives they are breathing in radiation.

Fukushima may one day be mentioned in the same breath as:
Chelmno, Belzec, Treblinka, Sobibor, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek.
Yes indeed… even the Japanese philosophy is the same:
"Work Will Set You Free"
"Smile, Be Happy, Tepco Loves You"

Those places were just a warm-up.

The first case of paediatric thyroid cancer was discovered this month in Fukushima Prefecture
To substantiate the petition, the FCET points out that the first case of paediatric thyroid cancer was discovered this month – normally, the possibility of a child developing this cancer is around one in a million. Also, a thyroid gland examination found that 43 per cent of the children have worryingly abnormal thyroid growth

Around 3 minutes into the video:
Question about any medical issues in Koriyama-city:
A man’s comment
“I am here from Yokohama. I was diagnosed with arrhythmia one year ago at a check-up. This spring I was told my EKG was abnormal. Also my red blood cell and white blood cell count was abnormal, but the doctor told me it was no big deal and I was working too much. I actually don’t work. Also my right little fingernail split in half recently. Something like this has never happened to me before, and I don’t feel good about it at all. One more thing is that my tooth cracked when eating something hard. I realize I can’t blame everything on radiation, but I don’t feel comfortable with any of these (symptoms). How is it in Koriyama? Are there abnormalities such as arrhythmia?

I finally found a working petition link at the save-the-children website in the last sentence of the text of the paragraph.
I notices on the petition page a note, "first deadline, Sept. 30".
Direct link to petition here: http://fukushima-syomei-e.blogspot.jp/
But I agree with arclight – the save the children from radiation site has interesting articles and is well worth a visit.

many thanks maggie
tis signed sealed and delivered..
the news of thyroid cancer is bad and the UK thyroid Association representative who claimed that the cysts and nodules were not because of Fukushima so their rich friends could print such drivel in the media.. they should all see the inside of a prison cell in my opinion.
peace

Has the calculation been done regarding the flow rate of water of the underground streams that run beneath the reactors and the quantity of radiation that is being picked up to add to the ocean on a daily basis?
The world needs as clear a view as possible as to where we stand here. I know it is not in a good place.
How many becquerels to the air? How many to the water-daily?

Critical data is missing for two-thirds of children tested for thyroid problems in Fukushima Prefecture, because their families have failed to declare the children's hour-by-hour whereabouts during the immediate post-disaster period.
Investigators need residence records for the four months following March 11, 2011, when radioactive fallout was high from a nuclear disaster and ingested iodine isotopes could have damaged the thyroid glands of growing children…..

The records are arduous to complete, but are needed in order to estimate a possible dose. Absence of a dose estimate could make people ineligible for compensation if they later develop serious problems such as thyroid cancer, because of an inability to establish a cause.
