Title: Obesity rising for Fukushima kids / 5- to 9-year-olds show highest rates of obese children across the nation
Source: The Yomiuri Shimbun
Date: Dec. 27, 2012
An alarming trend toward obesity has been found among children in Fukushima Prefecture, which has the highest rate of obese children in every age group between 5 and 9 years old, according to the results of a nationwide school health survey released by the education ministry. […]
The age group containing 8-year-old girls in the prefecture also showed the highest obesity rates, standing at 14.61 percent–nearly double the 8.1 percent recorded in 2010, or 17th in the rankings. […]
Regarding the spike in obesity in the 5- to 9-year-old group, an official of the education board said: “Parents, particularly those who have small children, were very concerned about possible radiation effects. They may have also restricted their children from playing outside at home.” […]
More from Yomiuri: Kanebusa Primary School in Minami-Soma [15 miles north of Fukushima Daiichi] in the prefecture, which resumed classes at a temporary school building in the city, lifted the restriction this spring. Principal Shoichi Yamanobe said, “We were concerned the children might lose their stamina, agility and sense of balance [because they couldn’t spend much time outside].” But now, he says, children are free to play outdoors and have been steadily regaining their strength.

Please read the following blog post: http://predictingwwquakes.blogspot.ca/
The last major earthquake to hit Japan was preceded by these deep earthquakes in Fiji. I read the above blog then made a comment on this site, jokingly at the time because I didn't really believe it, the next day the 7.8 hit off the coast of Japan.
Looking at the USGS Site for Dec 26th, 2 deep earthquakes occured off the coast of Fiji:

Watch the USGS site, and the news for the next couple weeks, we could be seeing another big one coming before the new year.
Here is the original Dec 6th, 2012 post by Ramaswami Kumar regarding the blog and my following comment about a deep earthquake off Fiji. The major earthquake hit the next day, Dec 7th at 5:88 PM.

I would also consider thyroid damage expressing itself through weight changes. I say that without discounting the offered reasons for the weight gains.
@Anthony, I would agree with the thyroid issues for weight gains. How many of the children with the obesity increase have thyroid noduals? Sudden weight gain (over a year) is one of the "markers" for low thyroid. They should also check body temperatures, low temperatures also could point to a sick thyroid. I seriously think its not lack of exercise to cause that LARGE a jump in weight. Any adults also having the same symptoms?
Yes, there are ramifications for your 43% of children showing nodules. There has to be. If I'm wrong, that's okay, but I would hate for any more falseness being allowed to rule the day and ruin lives further.
i thought thyroid lumps and nodules express excess thyroxin?
Can't know what they really are until you biopsy them, could even be benign.
It is time for these parents to speak with Iori.
This is from Sept of this year

Blame the obesity on children being kept indoors. This is beyond ludicrous. How stupid do they think we are? It's the time of year when children spend much of the day sitting at their school desks and even during recess they play indoors more than they do in the summer.
This is not about being kept inside. Can anyone say "thyroid malfunction?"
The really alarming trend is for Japanese to measure radiation for themselves. This is making children worry and get fat… I guess.
The real culprit? Illegal radiation measuring. "…In the Sunday discussion on NHK, the secretary general of the liberal democratic party, Ishihara said: “Citizens have instruments to measure radiation and take measurements (without prop maintenance). I will stop that”
"…We have to try and stop citizens from taking their own radiation measurements…"

We could send the LDP some drones. I think a Reaper can take out illegal-measuring citizens from 15 miles away.
Check Tokyo. And beyond. Radiation spreads thousands of miles.
